"traits" are only things like "character, officer, creature, trooper" etc. right? So Tarkin's effect neutralizes things like "target strike" to "reactions". correct?
Correct.
He also neutralizes things like Action, Reaction and Force Reactions.
Also to note, enhancements ultimately become destroyed when they are blanked (pilots and "enhance XYZ unit").
Bogwings also get destroyed when they are blanked.
I wasn't aware that when the text box of an enhancement is blanked out it should be removed from the game. Where did you read that?
Well, the enhancement is just destroyed, not removed from the game. It goes to the discard pile. This only affects enhancements that must attach TO something else in play, it won't affect enhancements that enhance your "play area" as those kind don't continuously check for eligibility. So, yes, Grand Moff Pilot Assassin!
The relevant ruling is in the FAQ on page 5 and reads:
"(2.19) Enhancements and Attachment Restrictions
Any enhancement that attaches to another card (with
text such as “Enhance a friendly Character unitâ€) is
required to continually meet its attachment condition
to remain in play as an attachment. It is immediately
discarded from play at any time the attachment
condition is not met (such as the enhanced Character
unit no longer being friendly) or is not present (such
as the enhancement losing the “Enhance a friendly
Character unit†text).
Enhancements that do not attach to another card (such
as those with “Enhance your play areaâ€) do not require
this text to remain in play."
Okay, let me give two example to see if I understand. Hobbie (pilot trait and cost one to play as a pilot) is attached to Rogue Squadron Assault X wing. Tarkin uses his ability on Hobbie's text box. Hobbie loses his text box yet remains on the x wing because his trait states that he is a pilot and pilots can be attached to a unit. Therefore he still meets the conditions to be an enhancement.
On the other hand (same x-wing as above) Astromech Droid Upgrade when affected by Tarkin's ability would be put into the discard pile because the text box no longer states that the card can be used on the x-wing.
Other examples of similar cards that would be discarded would be Jedi Lightsaber, Hold Out Blaster, Han's Heavy Blaster, etc.
Am I on the right track?
Okay I just read Frequently Asked Questions of the Officials Rules Clarification. You need not answer my previous statement, I understand how Tarkin applies to pilots and other cards. I really need to read the rules first instead of looking to this sites for clarification...
touche
You can choose an objective (any side) and blank it for a phase.
Ex: You blank May the Force be With You at the start of the LS Force Phase.
Ex2: You blank your own Asteroid Pursuit at the start of the refresh phase to avoid damaging it.
Again, these cards do exactly as they say, Tarkins ability says "target card", not "target enemy card", or "target friendly card", so it literally means any card. A card will specify its requirements right on the card whatever they are.
As an example, look at the Rule by fear card in tarkins set, it specifies "after an enemy unit enters play...", so that card can't be used to bounce your own units back to hand, only an enemy unit.
