dangerous as this card is for you to play, it allows for almost free starships very easily when combined with kuat reinforcements and admirals orders. just try very hard to not let a rebel assault kill it on turn one.
If you're playing this along with the Death and Despayre set, it makes a great target for Defense Upgrade. Can be a lot more cavalier about using the reduction ability when you have three extra damage capacity to work with.

This may be a silly question, but you are allowed to use the ability even when you're not intending to actually play any capital ships, right? (for instance, during your conflict phase, so there is damage for Thunderflare to move to an enemy objective)

Yep, you can do that.

Can this action be used multiple times to reduce the cost of a single capital ship?  There's no "once per turn" limit or anything, but I'm not sure if the action stacks with itself.

Yes, it stacks.

with deploy the fleet being so relevant currently I see this being played incorrect all the time.

deploy a cap ship. then damage.

EX:

deploy devestator

card on table....pay 3 and damage DTF 3

the reason this is a big deal is:

action: 1 damage for -1 cost

opposite player action option

action: 2nd damage for -2 cost

opposite player action option

action 3rd damage for -3 cost

opposite player action option (such as rebel assault!!!! thus no cost reduction)

action - deploy the cap ship at the minus 3 reduction

IMO this needs to be cleaned up I constantly see this being played incorrect.

Pet peeve of mine as well. Sith Holocron tends to be used similarly. For some reason, I haven't seen as many people having trouble with Owen.

Note that you do get the discount from previous uses of DtF if it gets destroyed (eg by Rebel Assault) between using its Action and playing the capital ship.  What you lose out on is the ability to do it an additional time or use the objective for its resource.

That last part is important to note as it seems like MonteKev is suggesting you don't get the discount you already paid for which is incorrect.

Yeah, I wasn't sure since his example did say play capital ship at -3. The wrong example is the one at the start of his post.
