Can this card be used on a single unit at a planet to deal its damage to the attacker?

Sure, as long as the unit doesn't leave play before your response opportunity.

The reaction is to damage being assigned, not to damage being taken, so the reaction always has the opportunity to initiate after step 1 in the dealing damage process, before shields. Therefore it's irrelevant whether its lethal damage or not, it will all be prevented. I'm not sure I understand the doubt behind the OP's question though, and what's really being asked ...

If I understand Etaywah's question correctly, he's asking if this could be used if you have only a single unit at that planet, a Soldier or Warrior. They take some amount of damage, you play this card and sac this unit you are "saving" in order to reassign it back to the attacker.

Then the answer to that is yes, GI can be used, because the Warrior/Soldier is sacrificed before they have to *take* any damage (lethal or not), which would be in step 3 of the dealing damage process. GI intervenes after step 1, when damage has been merely assigned.

Alpha you are correct to what I was asking. Single warrior/soldier sacing himself to deal damage to the attacker. Thanks guys.

An especially fun card when the unit in question is Straken's Command Squad and you have a Catachan outpost available which was the scenario I was in last night when I asked. Dealt his damage back to attacker, popped a guard, buffed, attacked.

Great card to turn the battle in your favour. This card also grows on you in the lategame where multiple tapped Soldiers or Warriors are present. 4/5.

Kinda wish it was more like Indomitable but this effect still is fantastic.

This event alone wins battles. Great card, great effect and great synergy with AM guys.

4/5

This effect is excellent and in conjunction with several AM units that have leave play effects - and Elysian Assault Team - it is usually a huge swing when you pull one of these off.

Your opponent assigns 10 damage. You sac a guardsman and do 1 damage. Golden.

5/5 (I review signature cards compared to other signature cards.)
