Very decent signature unit. Granted it is not an incredible powerfull part of Baharroth's set up.
The biggest additional downside of this card is that it can only grow to 3/2 when Baharroth is actually around, meaning this card can easily be forced away by opposing Warlord commitments which isn't something your ideally looking for if the Army unit itself costs 3. Besides that however it should be able to Command choke when played in combination with cards like Death from Above.
3/5
3/5 - although I feel a little bit like I do with Sicarius' Sig Squad in that if there were such a thing as half ressources it should be at 2.5. I like how these are just plain old "Warrior"s and FFG didn't put in another Signature that centers around a trait (I'm looking at you, pesky Ethereals). I like how their mechanic pretty much makes them command sniping birds of prey that only dive into the fight once their boss arrives.
This card is a lot better than it looks on paper, I've found. Even Soaring Falcon was pretty good by virtue of being 2 command with mobile, though that card's value has been reduced a little by all the good 2 command for 2 cost units the game has seen.
Hawks, however, remains as hard to snipe as the Falcon, but also has a decent attack value for when they converge on the Warlord. This is a really really good unit when dropped onto Planet 2.
The important thing about this card is that it's signature. When you build a deck, you work with 42 cards. This card beign signature means that you have 4 copies of a 2command unit with mobile. 2 Health, when you have mobile, is not that of an issue. I mean, 2 command 1/1 with mobile from tau cost 2. Add 1, get 1 more health, lose 1 attack, but gain 3 when you are with your warlord, and they are your signature.
This beign signature means that you won't need that many command units, and that you'll be able to add more combat oriented cards, or that you'll have an edge on the choke battle.
And again, 3 attacks when you have your warlord there. And they have mobile. You can spend the first 2 round floating around, and on the third be able to have a good amount of hard-hitting units. Add blodied reavers on that planet, and your enemy will have a lot to deal with.
4/5
Way of things is, I'm often finding Baharroth has to retreat from battle to avoid being bloodied, and that can leave these guys toothless.
Wanted to like these more, and have found they're not as good as I hoped.
If only they were 1 attack with a +2 bonus, or if they were "a warlord" rather than "your warlord" they could be decent. As it is, I'm finding myself increasingly disappointed with Baha with time
5/5: This is just great. Death from Above anyone? It is really easy to make these guys work, and since mobile becomes better with Baharroth in play, it actually does something with its mobile. Though God forbid mobile do something when not on a two command unit.
How so? Baharroth just has mobile, there's no real synergy.
Still find this frustratingly underpowered. Great, they can skip about and win commands, and death from above and the new shrine are great additions. But in my opinion the 'at a planet with your warlord' should be 'at a planet with A warlord' to put them on any sort of decent power level for a sig squad.
Its a subtle synergy, because the battle can be in more places.
For example, if you have Baha at 2 and the Hawks at 3, you can either have both units in 2, or both units in 3, picking the battle that is more favourable.
That said, the Shrine now ups them to a 2.5/5 card imo (they were 1.5).
I really want the Baha deck to be top class but there just seems to be too many moving parts to make it consistent. The new location syncs well with them so cant wait to try it out and see how it goes
You couldn't have said it better
Agreed. As I say, just needs one more Mobile-centric ATK boost, either a non-unique support or event, and they could be a goer.
Im still going to give it a shot and see how it gets on. Ill come back to this later
