He's mobile. Enough said. 5 stars.
He's 2/6 then 1/5, so is extremely fragile... if you can catch him, of course.
His signature squad is hard to assess till we see in play. I think they'll prove very strong, as they're 2/3/2 Mobile with the condition on the attack bonus not being arduous to meet, as they can always flee if Baharroth is not there, and he can move to meet them. However, they've got a lot less punch than Starbane's Council, and 2 toughness is really flimsy for a 3 cost.
The support is clearly solid: a discount Catachan Outpost with some limitations.
The shining blade looks very hard to get any real benefit from, but we'll see. To be honest, the attachment being the weakest part of the signature set is less of a problem, because three shields. The strongest play seems to be on an opponent's mobile unit.
Cry of the Wind is a bit less useful than Ragnar's Hunt or Foresight in command terms, as we can't react to command, but is more useful for pre-battle redeployment.
I can see Baharroth playing very much like an Eldar, hopping in and out of first planet as he chooses to, and in fact barely ever needing to telegraph the level of his commitment there, which I am expecting will have the effect of opponents having to overcommit to Planet 1 to be sure of winning it. However, lack of impact at the moment of crunch may let him down in the early game.
Hard to make an assessment yet. Overall, I'd say he feels worse than Eldorath, but I think some experimentation will find the right deck shape for him.
A cautious 4/5 for now.
If i just evaluate the warlord and his signature cards, he's 5/5 in my book, but when i evaluate him as a deck, he's 3/5. He is missing one critical piece of the puzzle: a solid non-elite mid/high-cost mobile unit.
I feel right now he is in the same spot as Aun'shi was at release. Orbital City was critical missing piece for Aun'shi. Baharroth is in the exact same spot right now.
This Warlord for me is a clear cut 4/5. Which in my honest opinion is the best rating that can be given to a Warlord because a 5/5 would mean it's likely too powerfull.
The combination of Whimiscool and TimeZero's rating really leads to this aswell. As his ability, Mobile, is very significant on a Warlord but at the same time make him tactically much harder to use.
Additionally the 2/6 Warlord is a statline that doesn't mean you can easily pick him up, move him from A to B and always come out ahead.
As such 4/5 Great Warlord but harder to use right. Not unlike Cato in that aspect.
Edit - Having played some games with him now I can say mobile on a warlord is amazing - so much choice to take command and wni planets. Enemies mass at a planet, I can win command there and still escape the fight. Generally being at a later planet also allows safer exhausting to pay for Nullify and Negtiations.
3/5 as a first impression. I like the fluidity a deck around this warlord could have, but with 2/6 and 1/5 he's just as squishy as Kith or Zarathur - without packing the same punch.
Oh no, he's far less squishy than Zarathur, because Zarathur needs to be in the thick of the key battle, and that puts him in harms way. Also Zarathur decks often run more supports than eldar decks, so there's fewer shields going around too. Zarathur's commit is so often entirely obvious, whereas its really hard to read where Baharroth will end up.
As for Kith, I'd say the squishiness is about equal. Mobile makes this guy harder to pin down, but the Khymera makes Kith more able to clear opposing damage dealing threats.
I definitely don't deny his fragility is a problem, but in practice and in play, he's far harder to bloody than Zarathur.
2 months on, and lots of games later, I have to say that while Baharroth is a solid card I've overestimated the strength of his signature cards by some margin, so I'm now rating Baha as a second tier warlord.
I think this warlord is kinda weak compared to others...
The biggest issue is his worst matchups are Kith and Eldorath, which are commonplace in tournaments. If the meta were to shift to where these 2 warlords are weakened (but Baha isn't) he'd be very powerful.
Aun'shi currently needs 2 cities in play to have a chance against Baha in my experience.
I agree Aun'shi is a nice match up to have, as a well timed Kau'yon Strike will often be a brinksmanship play for Aun'shi, and Baharroth has access to Nullify. Also, as has been noted, Aun'shi has as much if not more planet 1 trouble as Baharroth. Mobiltiy from Planet 2 is great for Baharroth, as he can threaten bigger numbers on Planet 1, and its actually large numbers of units as much as high HP units that Aun'shi dislikes facing.
OTOH, Baharroth has the flaw of being a 6HP warlord who often needs to stick around to keep his signature unit or groupies activated, and thats very dangerous against an Armourbane Aun'ui Prelate. Its a lot easier for Aun'shi to bloody Baharroth than vice versa, as Aun'shi is out of the planet before Gift of Isha is played, generally.
Asklepios, also the signature ability cry of the wind can be used to stop a Kau'yon strike as well. Even put them at a planet where they are nearly useless for a turn. I have played with this warlord maybe more times then with Starbane and he feels like a tough matchup for Aunshi, one big reason is that it can be harder to catch him.
V true, love the versatility of that card. Recently had a play where a Blackmane Sentinel was moved via its ability, moved again by Cry, and left the opposing player with a lost battle where Ragnar was, and the Sentinel fighting solo against my Wraithguard (who had initiative). Sometimes I feel that card is wasted played on our own units!
Also love it how can counter a Sicarius' Chosen, and how it can get opposing Wild Riders where you want them!
