Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce the upcoming release of Android: Netrunner! Originally designed by Richard Garfield and released in 1996, Netrunner was widely hailed as one of the greatest customizable card games of its era. Now, with Android: Netrunner, players can look forward to revisiting the game’s exciting play… or experiencing it for the first time.

Android: Netrunner is an asymmetrical Living Card Game™ for two players. Set in the cyberpunk future of Android, the game pits a megacorporation and its massive resources against the subversive talents of lone runners. Corporation players try to score points by advancing their agendas, and netrunners try to score points by breaking through the corporation’s defenses and stealing valuable data. The first player to seven points wins the game, but not likely before he suffers some brain damage or bad publicity.

Building a Brighter Future

Every day, humanity benefits from the efforts of those visionary corporations that have worked tirelessly to push the envelope of human experience. Mankind has spread across the solar system, colonizing celestial bodies with varying degrees of success. The Moon and Mars have been colonized, and plans are underway to terraform the red planet. On Earth, a massive space elevator climbs through the exosphere, ending at a space hub that facilitates easy travel to the Moon or other destinations. It is the major hub for space trade, and most people refer to it as the “Beanstalk.”

Corporate advancements in computers and discoveries in the field of neurobiology have led to brain-mapping, a method by which the human mind can be electronically recorded and fitted to sophisticated mind-machine interface devices. Now, the mouse and keyboard are archaic relics, gestural interfaces and virt displays are the new normal, and human intellect can achieve immortality, even as geneticists, pathologists, and other scientists work to unlock the secrets of physical immortality.

.... never trust a megacorp…

Everything you know is a lie. It’s only what the Corps want you to think or see or hear. If you want to see the truth, you have to hack through layers of firewalls, past sentries, barriers, and the pervasive media chatter. Megacorps aren’t built on dreams and hopes. They’re built on credits, lies, and the blood and sweat of the little guys who can’t stand up for themselves. They will kill whomever they need, whenever they can, to keep their messaging strong and clear, broadcasting from Broadcast Square to outer space. You want the truth? Talk to a runner. They call us criminals, sure, but that’s just because megacorps don’t live by laws; they make them. They make reality. But whatever they think they can make, I can tear it down. There’s only one real truth. The network is everywhere. Everything is on the net. Your banking, your purchase history, your favorite shows, your dirty laundry. You dig deep enough, you run fast enough, you can find anything, and be anyone…

Breaking the Ice

The asymmetrical game play of Android: Netrunner creates entirely different experiences for corporations and runners, but in all cases, players gain an unprecedented amount of control over the flow of the game. Tension builds immediately from the very outset as both players consider how to maneuver through their actions each turn. Bluffs, calculated risks, and assumed losses all play into your decision-making as you must forge quickly ahead with limited and imperfect knowledge.

Furthermore, players can explore the flavorful distinctions between the game’s four corporations (Haas-Bioroid,Jinteki, The Weyland Consortium, and NBN) and its three runner classes (Anarch, Criminal, and Shaper). Each of these seven factions offers a distinctive personality, further rooting it in the Android universe and enriching the game’s variety.

Hack into the Future

The future is here. Megacorps and netrunners vie for control of reality. Android: Netrunner is scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2012, and you can read more about it on the game’s description page!

Pretty awesome announcement. The original Netrunner CCG has tons of fans still and it is one of the games that I've seen the most calls for to bring back.
Great news! I've always wanted to play but missed the first go around.
another lcg to add on cardgamedb? :P

yep, I'm a complete fanboy for these LCGs (as if that wasn't obvious), and I know that Netrunner is an awesome game so this one has got me excited. My wife is going to freak out at me buying 6 a month but she'll get over it :D

sorry for the ignorance but I didn't understand how this game works though. What is this asymmetrical lcg concept and what kind of game it is, cooperative or 1vs1?
OOOooohhh!!! AWESOME! Best News ever!

it is PVP and by asymmetrical they are talking about 2 sides to the game that don't share cards and also play differently. It is kind of like when playing a corp deck you are playing by one set of mechanics and when playing a runner deck you are playing by a different set of mechanics.
interesting
Looks promising; just hope it catches on.
Wow. I have my fingers crossed. This has the potential to be huge.
Man, I loved the original Netrunner (still have thousands of cards!), and since I love all the LCGs, I am definitely DEFINITELY looking forward to this!
Can FFG legitimately support all these LCGs or is something going to be retired?

define legitimate support? are they really doing that much support now,?
yeah it isn't like they have large prize tournaments or a pro tour. We've never heard a bad thing about the sales of their LCGs from them (not that they would ever tell us) but assuming all of them are profitable there really isn't anything to worry about.
Inquest magazine rated this game the best ccg ever back in 1997. I've played it for years, and I consider it the most suspenseful game I've played. Both players are in a state of paranoia throughout much of the game, the runner is always worried that they'll get traced and executed, while the corporation is fearful that their agendas will be stolen from under their nose. Exceptional game, and I highly recommend it to all fans of 2 player games.
Ah, Inquest..... I miss that magazine so much....

Would love to see a successful mutiplayer veraiant called "turf wars" where corps compete against each other but also against the runners.

And vice versa.
...I think a little bit of wee just came out. Can't wait.

...or is something going to be retired?

It already was, Star Wars LCG!
Being pulled back to the drawing board and now this announcement... it means SW:LCG idea will be collecting dust in the FFG basement for a long time...

Considering the ungodly amount of money FFG must've paid for that license, I'd guess they'd have to come out with some product sooner or later.

if you think ffg is going to let the stars wars lcg rot, you're sillier than a penguin vacationing in the north pole
