Thanks for the great breakdown, and for your terrific content in general!

I initially dismissed Mark Harrigan as the weakest of the new Carcosa investigators (apart from Lola, who isn't weak so much as she's a puzzle I have yet to solve). Mark seemed pretty one-dimensional, with low sanity and a weakness card that specifically punishes him for having low sanity.

After building a deck for him and playing through the Dunwich Legacy (paired with human clue vacuum Rex Murphy), I've done a complete 180 on Mark. Sophie makes him incredibly versatile even before he gets set up, which is typically a big weakness for Guardians. Shell Shock can occasionally â€‹be pretty painful, but usually it either whiffs entirely or just does one point of horror. It's fairly easy to play around if you have a bit of healing (just try to keep an odd number of damage counters on Mark to blunt the effect).

On top of that, Mark's innate ability to draw cards might be the best investigator ability in the game (certainly one of the best). Shoot an enemy with a .32 Colt (easy to do with Mark's massive 5 Combat), then plink the baddie with your Lvl. 2 Beat Cop AND draw a card. Need to pass a Willpower check? Damage Mark to bump his WP up to 5 (or 7, or 9), and then draw a card--which could very well be used for even more WP icons.

Of course, he does have flaws. 5 sanity can seem so low in certain scenarios (Zebulon Whateley, come on down!), and you need to pack a suite of healing cards even though he has a huge health pool. Still, he's incredibly powerful in ways that you don't really appreciate until you play around with him. Great design.
