I (Kennon) live about 20 minutes away and spent most of my high school and college years gaming there and even now that I've moved on to game in Springfield, MO at Metagames, we're still only a little over an hour away, so this terrible event has been weighing heavily on us. We started it off first as an attempt at a mostly local event focusing on Game of Thrones promo materials, uncut sheets, etc but when GRRM said that he would send down some signed items, we got the bug to try to make this even bigger and better.
Along with GRRM now, we've gotten written oks that a variety of others are donating items: Neil Gaiman, Jeremy Haun, Cullen Bunn, AEG, and many more. These are just the folks that I've talked to, but I know the other two guys working on this have been contacting a variety of other gaming companies and geek celebrities. The fire has really lit to make this as large an event as possible. We've got info up at http://on.fb.me/kWahMT (Facebook page), as well as a Twitter account @JoplinReliefAuc that could really use more followers as we try to spread the word. Metagames' official site at www.mguinc.com has information up as well since they'll be handling the Ebay listings and payments.
