From what I read other people reporting on Twitter, it's a partnership with HBO, and some suggest it will be head-to-head only (I read that as joust, no melee). The box is showing the Iron Throne from the show, and the tagline is "A game of intrigue, betrayal and the struggle for power". Still unclear how much of the game is the same as the original. Eager to hear more.
Cardboard of the rings posted a picture in their facebook feed of the next LotR Expansion, it's called Heirs of Numenor, Can't wait!
When is Netrunner going to be in stock at online stores? I'm itching to order from Miniature Market.
That rates as one of the strangest ideas I've heard yet... what good will it be for the people who buy the HBO version? Hey - you like the game!? Awesome... now go buy a core set... and an expansion. Oh, those cards you just bought? Yeah - those can't be used in organized play. Sorry about that.

This idea of not being able to play in events is pretty silly. Many card games have "special editions" of the cards with unique gfx that make them collectable but the same rules text another cards.. making them playable in comps... I think this should have been the way to go.

@Alita99 - They said it will be in stores in 4 weeks.
To be honest I am grateful that this won't be tournament legal. Having two different designs looks awful. I hate it in both MtG and Star Trek.

But yeah, it kinda splits the community or makes people waste money, which is bad.
Intrigued by the listed card distributions on the HBO box. 50 player cards for each house (when 60 is standard)...but 32 plot cards (when each player only needs 7). I actually kind of like that, since it will allow for quite a bit of plot deck variety, but I'm a bit surprised FFG included that many plots with that few player cards.

The 32 plot cards is pretty cool, sounds like they are going to push customizable plot decks as an entry method into deck building.

@Tragic: It's pretty clear this isn't just a "special edition" with new graphics. The cards spoiled on the back of the box don't match cards currently in the game. For example looking at image 3 you can see a completely new Cersei and Tyrion has been slightly altered (lost "win an Intrigue challenge" bit and Learned Crest). .
To me this version seems like a clever move. You can put this box into a Wal Mart and sell it. Just because it is the game for the renown HBO series. Seems also like a lighter version than the original core set which focuses on one of the best aspects of the game: the plots. This box has the potential to reach and please a much larger audience than the standard core set. And in the end there will be some people trying out the "pro version"...

I agree w/Muschraum. May even be a *better* way to introduce people into the game then the Core set. Guess we'll see.

How many of us are going to buy this not only to introduce friends to it but for the house cards, and power and gold tokens?

I'll buy 3 boxes.
I'll buy that for a dollar! Har har har!
I see this as a panic-move. I think FFG was expecting a larger boom in sales of AGoT products after HBO series was released and it hasn't materialized. I am not in the know, but I would assume the rights to AGoT products expires after so many years and if sales are not that strong it would be moved.....
Personally, I think FFG has done a fine job with what they have done but it is the world we live in.
I disagree - I see this as a profit move. Looking at HBO's store... the number of AGoT products is ever increasing. I see this as a continuation of that theme - adding another item to the themed merch.
Isn't the game already themed, though? I am pretty sure core set and 2nd edition are sold on HBO site.

I hope I am wrong and Zordren is right. I hope FFG needs more tables at next year's gen con for the AGoT tourney. I hope I am just salty from not being really excited this year about their products. I just found myself being intrigued by other booths. The glass case didn't "wow" me like it did last year with Descent 2e and Rex.
Technically, you're right, the game is "themed" but not with the HBO Art like all the other products they're featuring in the store. With the HBO Art being specifically featured, I think it lends credence to this being a partnership affair of HBO trying to increase the show presence and FFG being more than happy to provide this as a platform.

I'm hoping, honestly, that we see some other Houses introduced with the HBO Artwork honestly. As much as I don't like seeing the game bifurcated in this way... there is a definite appeal to the HBO theme making the game more popular in general. At least, that's my hope.
Am I the only one who, quite frankly, think that the template for these cards looks absolutely terrible?
I did at first but some elements have grown on me. The worst parts are the challenge icons and strange white strength shield. Other than that I think the events and plots look better than the normal ones.
Yeah, mainly I'm looking at any sort of icons in it- Challenges, STR, Cost, etc.
I agree with that - not digging the icons. I do think they integrated the stills quite well and I do like the overall template... just think the icons are lackluster. I'm not sure how I feel about the color choices either... but I'll have to see them first hand before I decide.

I do like the gold pieces with the HBO version of the Targ sigil. I'm not sold on the power counters yet... again, want to see them first hand.

Am I the only one who, quite frankly, think that the template for these cards looks absolutely terrible?

I love the house sigils in the corner like that instead of banners. But when it comes down to practical uses, the design seems to be lacking, and sadly those sigils are part of the problem.
I think, if they make this even more like a "board" game, (completely balanced decks with fixed cards.) It might be okay.
Having plots be the only "wildcards" is an interesting idea.
Less deck building more plot bluffing?
