New Look, New Features and Twitter for CardGameDB

So these past couple weeks I've been working hard on updating the site to add new features which will allow you to see what is new here and look up information quicker. I'll just dive right into it and show you what's changed.

First and most obvious is the new look for the site. My first goal was to make the site look sleeker and make navigation easier while maximizing the space available. The new left side bar will I hope help with that. Each major section of the site can be easily switched between. Under the "More" tab you will find a dropdown menu which has links to the pages everyone is going to the most. Each game we cover gets its own section. Gone are the days when you would have to dig through the site to get to the page you want. The new navigation area should get you where you want to go almost instantly

Below that is an area dedicated to showing recent comments on various cards. I didn't realize until recently that many people just didn't know that you can rate the cards and comment on them here at CardGameDB. So in an effort to make that more usable each game now has a feed of the most recent card comments housed right in the sidebar. Below that I've also added a section to show recent article comments too. It should be fairly easy to now follow comments from these parts of the site now.

Up top we have a new nicer looking breadcrumb navigation bar and on the right side of it there is an improved View New Content link. In the View New Content area you can see all the new forum threads, calendar events, members, articles, and gallery images that have been added or updated since your last visit.

The new quick search area at the top is something I came up with to let visitors get to searching for the cards they want right away. It is a simple search that is available on almost every page so no matter where you are in the site if you need to look up a card you can do it. Another new feature the quicksearch shares with the advanced search is the ability to generate a link to share your search elsewhere on the web.

The main forum home page now shows the normal forums on the left side and on the right we have blocks to show recent articles, card spotlights per game, and recent decks per game. Make sure to go into your My Settings-> Profile and check off the games you play, this helps the site decide which game to show you as a default.

Always at the bottom is the member/search bar. Clicking on your name will open a menu to adjust your settings and beside your name you can see how many new unread Private Messages you have.

I also know that sometimes change sucks so if you really hate the new look the old look is always available by selecting IP.Board in the dropdown box at the bottom of the page.

I've got other enhancements coming soon, including the abiltiy to search the card database by artist and to select the order you want the cards returned in. An expanded Lord of the Rings section including a deckbuilder will be available soon and I'm still working out the details of creating a Warhammer: Invasion section.

To help keep everyone informed on what is going on here at CardGameDB I've started up a Twitter account @CardGameDB. Make sure to follow us on Twitter as I'll be using it to announce improvements to the site, when I have new cards scanned, when new sets go on sale, when spoilers are up, etc. Also don't forget to like us on Facebook :D

I'm also looking for people who might be interested in writing various articles for the games we cover, including but not limited to strategy articles, card spotlights, metagame analysis, and tourniment reports. Send me a PM if interested.

As always these were some pretty big changes and I've tested the site in all the major browsers on Windows 7, but if you see any errors please let me know.
