The Resurgence of the Old Bear

Joe From Cincinnati is back and writing again (at least for one more article).
The truth is, there hasn't been much for me to write about in the past few months. As a Night's Watch player, you can only write so much about being continuously punched in the nuts by FFG.
But there is one topic that I really wanted to cover. Old Bear Mormont.
I've been laughed at on occasion when my opponent sees me play him (You actually play that piece of crap?). Then, after I beat them with him, it was just luck and all etc.
So, due to multiple interactions where people have questioned why Old Bear is even worth playing, I decided to write an article about him.
Enjoy!

Nice one, i hate being up against james when he has mormont
James loves the Old Bear. Almost as much as he loves Mance Rayder.
NW have gained enough clever tricks for triggering him to make him worth running. Also, the meta demands large, expensive characters right now, and he's better than the other options. The Raven on him, with Chett to recursion it, makes him able to defend the wall single-handedly.
You just summarized my article in 3 sentences
.
Thank you Joe, for this great article. It actually makes me want to play NW
That means I've done my job haha.
Nice article Joe.
While the NW are poor in terms of gold, they have 2 of the most efficient engines in the game. Old Bear + Little Bird + Wall is a 12 gold combo that can contribute 28 STR to challenges if you go 2nd. No one can compete with that bang for your buck. Then look at Castle Black: there are a few other 2 cost stand effects, but besides Illario they mainly affect Lords/Ladies. Castle Black stands and gives +2 STR to any character for less money than Seal of the Hand AND you just pay the 1 price to use it every turn.
I couldn't have said it better myself. Castle Black is another consistently underrated card, in my opinion!
Castle Black, as great as it is, does not do a thing in order to protect NW from Kneel.
Same goes for Mormont with Raven. He could be unbeatable, but when he is kneeling he is not worth more than kneeling Samewell.
There are simply too few targets in NW to justify Seal of the Hand, making Mormont prey to any kneel deck.
What I expect from FFG in Deluxe Expansion is to aid NW in battling kneel, give them in-house attachment removal, and add more characters who can actualy do something when knelt. Thoren from 3rd CP is a nice example of such character.
Yea, I am still holding out hope that the next deluxe box is Night's Watch. They definitely deserve some sort of anti-kneel tech. It just wrecks them completely.
Bara is practically an autoloss right now, which is a shame because he other 7 factions, the Night's Watch have some pretty good match ups.
Bears, Beets, Battlestar Galactica.
