Semi-reposting from the FFG boards--Collusion does not *only* mean predetermining the results of a match.

The relevant "Unsportsmanlike Conduct" section contains a series of items, of which predeterminination is one, collusion is another. Grammatically speaking, it's directly equivalent to this:

Players are expected to behave in a mature and considerate manner, and to play within the rules and not abuse them. This prohibits:

  • intentionally stalling a game for time,
  • abusing an infinite combo to unnecessarily lengthen the game,
  • inappropriate behavior,
  • treating an opponent with a lack of courtesy or respect,
  • scouting,
  • predetermining the results of a match (i.e. determining a result before the match is played),
  • premeditated collusion,
  • etc.

So, it becomes clear. List them in any order you like. If you choose a deck design that gets better with other copies of itself, and you decide amongst yourselves to bring as many copies of that deck to the event as possible, then you are making premeditated decisions amongst your ostensible adversaries designed to give yourselves a competetive advantage which other players, other metas, do not have access to. If that's not collusion, then nothing is. It violates the letter and spirit of the Unsportsmanlike Conduct clause.

For my money, the cross-deck combo they brought violates the "intentionally stalling," "abusing an infinite combo," and "lack of respect" just for how they treated Mathieu in that game. Shutting him out completely then dickering amongst themselves for placement for hours on end, it was just cruel.

The more I think about it, the more disgusted I get, not just at the collusion, but at the cynical attempt to ruleslawyer their way around guidelines. You can't look at that list and not take away that the objective is "play fair, everybody." If you're trying to push that line, you're already over it.

Can we get Greg's deck list?
I'll see if he still has it around.
