Banter Behind the Throne Episode 23

Best ending ever. 

OMG, that location is nuts.

Not enough good things can be said about the ending of this episode.

Ok. I was going to say how wrong you were about Syrio (as was James), I might even have whined a little about how the "thrones rivalries" segment fell a little flat, but that ending. Yes. 

Also, excellent work on making sure you explain what first edition cards/mechanics did when you talked about them, it's something I keep kicking myself for not doing.

Don't sell yourselves short. There's "I burn the card" "just bollocks" "the dog's bollocks" and... Westeros Bleeds. That's already a 4-point rating system. 

But on-demand stealth addition is very good - it's a character that's helps break through Bara, single-handedly gives you a LOT of stopping power against GJ, and lets you throw much more threatening chud into Dracarys. It empowers the anti-banter significantly, if that deck can afford him.

That is a wonderful tribute.

To fully comprehend the magnitude of my response to the closing “segment,” I will need to tell you a bit about myself . . . I tend to be an avid Stark player who enjoys agro, beat-stick armies, raging wildlings, that sort of thing. I loathe Westeros Bleeds,  not because it is a bad card, but in the way a scientist loathes the atom bomb, for its sheer villainous destruction that (if the truth must be told) . . . has an undeniable and sickening beauty as well.

Back to your closing segment . . .

I must now forever question my practice of listening to your podcast while driving and simultaneously eating my lunch, as in this case it was nearly my undoing. I struggled to maintain control of my car whilst choking on a turkey sandwich and narrowly avoiding multiple head-on collisions due to the convulsions of laughter and exhilaration this segment caused. In an instant akin to a near-death experience, several complex thoughts flashed through my mind . . .

ONE: If this segment could be encompassed in a single name that would instantly convey all of its sublimity, quality, and importance . . . AND if I now had the opportunity to name my firstborn, I would give her this name. (Sadly, she’s already been given the far less interesting moniker of “Zoe” and being 12 years old, is likely too old for a name change.)

TWO: Amidst the joy was an overwhelmingly bittersweet revelation that I could not possibly ever convey my reaction to this segment to loved ones and non-AGOT friends. Sure I could PLAY the segment for them, but would they UNDERSTAND the segment? Never.

THREE: Events of my life would now become classified by their place in my personal timeline “before the segment” or “after the segment,” the latter bearing the benefit of this newfound joy and the former forever now cast in a gray pall.

In short . . . best closing ever.

P.S. None of the above was hyperbole.

That was a perfect ending not only for this episode, but the world of 1.0 as a whole.  It perfectly encapsulated the joy of the game that was and the beautiful sadness that it has passed on.  It will be the music that I hear whenever I think of 1.0 from now on.  Thank you.
