Banter Behind the Throne - Episode 33 - Well, in Magic...

oldshrimpeyes thatspeel

I was away taking communion from some sexy nuns so Craven and Peel were joined by Jack Abbott (Jackpls) to discuss the UK regional schedule and where Seaham is, tournaments and ettiqutte and how Jack's experience at high end Magic tourneys compares. They also discuss the new Stark spoilers and some exclusive Lannister spoilers (which will go up soon).

Peel is little confused where Stockton is, its actually near Middlesborough. I apologise to my friends in the wonderful Boro meta. For those who aren't aware, part of the 'confusion' about Seaham getting a regional is that Stockton is thirty minutes away, has a massive meta and a massive shop.

The Red Cloaks are mil/int rather than mil/power.
I haven't listened to the whole episode so I apologise in advance for any other travesties.

Despite the lack of Dave, I greatly enjoyed this episode! Good job and very informative.

Great episode guys, some really good discussion in there. I will disagree slightly on mod-losses though. I honestly dislike the position that if someone is going to win eventually you should just concede to give them the full win, because as far as I'm concerned the rules for the victory are "reach 15 power", and if you can't do that in an entire 50-70 minutes (depending on round timings) then why do you deserve the full win? By actually trying to maximise my own score (and yes, at the expense of my opponent's), I'm keeping them honest when it comes to their deckbuilding. Encouraging people to play decks that win slightly quicker is better for everybody, as it helps tournaments run smoother, stops NPE circumstances (how many times in first edition, particularly against Martell KotHH or Bloodthirst, did you know you had no chance of winning but then it took your opponent another half an hour from that point to actually close the game out?), and gives people valuable time to rest and relax between rounds to stop a larger tournament becoming a slog of one match ending and another immediately beginning with no time to switch off for a moment. Wilfully conceding games that your opponent can't win in time only encourages that lax behaviour, as far as I'm concerned.
