Click here for the podcastIn this week's episode, Istaril and ... umm... let's say Darknoj start by discussing this weeks tourney results, as well as a few localization clarifications as a follow-up from last week's episode. Then, as prep for some big upcomming tournaments, we have 2012 North American Melee Champion Mike P. (fhormikey) on to discuss playing the melee format. Finally, in the closing comments, we go over the few upcomming tournaments.

Follow up: Heard back from Jon, everything's OK. Curse his delays for making me lose sleep when sleep is at a steep premium. Bad Jon! Bad Jon!
Another special thanks to Raul (r480) for filling in at the very last second.
Thanks!
Shouldn´t there be a period of time between the announcement and the implementation of an FAQ? That would be a really easy way to solve those issues. I´ve played other games where both the rules and the cards have a "quarantine-time" for the meta to adapt.
I changed my mind on this a bit. I think that many tournaments would just adapt the new FAQ as soon as it came out. Which would mean some regional tournament could have a significant different rule set, in what should be a locked to a single FAQ time period. I actually hope they don't release it till it goes into effect but that they do so the minute the last regional starts.
What's this about a Targ NA build? Dany and Harrenhal?
*Lightbulb* Fuel Harrenhal with Griff? that could be sick...
Shhhhhhhh
I remember that final table. I knew Chad's typical play was Valar turn 2 with all his dupes, but given that there were 2 duped Mels (Jon's was duped too) and Mikey's duped Knight of Flowers as well I didn't expect him to do so that turn. I specifically made sure to have fewest power as it was obvious the 3 of us running Bara were going to flip Power of Faith. That way I could choose myslef to go first. Had I known Jon had the Narrow Escape, I would have stuck to that plan.
Without that knowledge, I wanted Mikey to go last so we could try to bring him down a little and had Chad go first. After the Narrow Escape I knew Jon would win unless I did something about it. Given my lack of resources that game, I had to take the plus 2 gold title to pay for the 5 gold army to take 1st player. That meant I couldn't attack Chad to take the win. The characters I saved were a couple of Old Red Priests to use to keep Mikey from getting UO against Chad as his supporter. However, Jon distracted me while Mikey rushed through the challenges.
Jon: it was a military rather than power challenge you gave me, but with double renown Bob put me up 3 power with 2 renown on him plus 1 for UO. My power challenge was against Mikey who went in strong to defend it.
In short, I should have table talked about plots to make sure that Chad didn't Valar, and then I would have won. I didn't because I was afraid of collusion accusations with this being the first year with the new rules following Corey and Erick the year before.
You are correct it was a miltary not a power challenge. Either way it was a very fun melee table, great players, nice guys and with lots of swings. Just the way melee should be.
