Beyond the Wall Istaril Darknoj Vaapad Peter W. mathlete Alex Trig Worlds 2014 Podcast AGOT
Click here for the podcast. In this week's episode, we have some recording differences in the intro/conclusion due to Istaril's travel (different mic, slightly different software, and several of Darknoj's kids...) - which hopefully won't be too grating. We go over the tournaments of the past two weeks, some FFG news and a small but important bit of podcast news. We follow it up with something a little different; a series of very short interviews with superb players including Alex Trig, Vaapad, Peter W., and J. Bruno, each picking a deck they've played prominently in the last year and telling us why it *won't* win worlds. Finally, we close off announcing the three big tournaments of the week after next... which will you be at?

Errata:
Mentioned "Threat from/fom the North" instead of the East.
Re-uploaded cast to include a mention (by name) of the Stark guest.

I am so looking forward to get home and listen to the cast. The interviews sound like they are going to be very interesting!
I do want to mention the circumstances behind the rather egregious bias towards North American guests this episode; because my travel interfered with our usual weekend recording slots (far more accommodating to different time zones), we were somewhat constrained. Thankfully, Alex Trig never sleeps!
We *did* reach out to a few other prominent people, but it turns out nobody wants to go on record telling us Martell N/A, Bara of any kind, or Lanni N/A won't win worlds... fancy that
.
Great episode guys, I really enjoyed the short interview format. I spotted a couple of errata you might want to consider. At no point during the actual cast did you mention the name of your guest who spoke about Stark. I'm guessing from your list above that it was Peter W? Also, amusingly, when discussing the typo in the FAQ on Threat from the East you made a speak-o, calling it Threat from the North. That wasn't restricted last I checked, and being able to play it wouldn't help Bara that much as far as I can see
Lead Link with all their stand. It is the most ridiculous thing in the game (highly debatable).
Nice try, Dave. I'm not buying it.
Great catch! I've left my speak-o in, to leave evidence of how sloppy I can b e (thankfully, Darknoj cut me constantly referring to Bara No Agenda as Martell No Agenda, which I'd like to blame on jet-lag rather than stupidity), but I've re-uploaded the cast with a lead-up mentioning who Peter is!
LOL go figure.
I'll prove my sincerity by showing up without a Dragonpit deck next week. I gave my true opinion, for what it's worth.
I really liked the quick interview format with different comments on the same topic. Maybe some format to work with in future episodes. (though I can imagine it to be rather tough to schedule all the recording time)
But somehow episodes gets shorter every week.
Enjoy your stay at the good'ol world.
Well I am waaaay too committed to a deck that "won't win worlds" that I am just going to have to prove you guys wrong
Hard to find a deck that has no weak matchups right now that's for sure, meta is in a great spot!
You hit the nail on the head - I had a blast doing this kind of rapid-fire interview set, and I think it's something to do in the future - but from a scheduling standpoint, it's tricky. I would like to see it be a more regular way of approaching some controversial new issues as they come along.
Just curious, do most Canadians pronounce 'Episode' Apisode?
I enjoyed this episode. Everyone sounded like a Grumpy Gus, which is just the way I like it.
yes
I have to admit that I really dug this approach to covering what's hot (or not). Well done!
