Beyond the Wall, Season 1 Episode 44

Beyond the Wall Istaril Darknoj Wolfgang Raekob Don V.B. Wedge Stahleck 2014 Season Finale AGOT

After a brief tourney recap and the usual FFG and podcast news, we jump right into our season finale! The topic: Stahleck. First, an overview of Stahleck past and present with head organizer Wolfgang P., and then a recap of melee (and the overall) with champion Jakob H. (raekob), the joust with champion Don V.B., and the team event with winning team camptain Wedge. As you may have guessed, this episode runs a little long... but what a way to end our first season, 50 (44+6) episodes of content. We wax nostalgic in the closing comments.

Hopefully you've enjoyed season 1, and you'll keep an eye out for us early next year.

Errata:
-Istaril implied Andreas claimed Overall by a landslide, when in fact he was 2nd & 5th to Laplante's 12th & 2nd. The victor was clear (without counting points), but the margin wasn't large!
-The closing jingle is a lie... no episode next week!

It's fairly obvious who the genius is behind Jakob's champ card, right? *cough* ;-)

Great episode, a worthy finale to an amazing season 1.

Just to ensure he gets the recognition he deserves - the Brit playing Martell Maesters at Jakob's semi table was the almighty Waffle. Best thing about it, he'd been drinking all day, and still almost took down Jakob and Trig.

Yeah, sorry I couldn't remember Waffle. He was amazing at that table though. Didn't stop drinking and nearly took the table turn 1.

Halfway through the cast. Just a quick thought regarding the format discussion (oh no! it's metastasizing!). I was also a bit surprised that players like Laplante and Don were rather positive regarding the Joust in one day, but it makes sense - they were the ones who managed to cope rather well, obviously. I imagine you might get a different response from players who were affected badly by exhaustion and went out in Top 16 or Top 8.

EDIT: BTW, AWSESOME episode so far.

Nice finale!

Grats to both champs and also to Wolfgang. Going to Stahleck til thrones and throners exist.

No Spanish did great but we took both drafts :P The format that matters .

Rowan beat me to the Waffle-crediting. The man came so close to winning that game twice, and still insists the only reason he made top 16 in the first place is because he was so incompetent people didn't take him seriously, then he "accidentally" played three Conclaves and won. The people's champion.

Great cast, but I have a bone to pick with you Alex, quoting me saying nice things in private! Now people are going to stop thinking I'm a horrible monster, my reputation is ruined!

Oh also, while Andreas was absolutely a deserving Overall champion, implying it was a runaway victory is doing a disservice to Laplante, who made top 16 in Melee and the final of Joust. Swiss pairings are the only thing that gave Andreas the win between them, I believe. Again, not to take anything away from Andreas, because those two were in a league of their own.

Sorry - I think I may have misspoken. I meant to contrast it with my win 'by a point' (Who says that placing 2nd and 5th is better than 3rd and 4th?), Andreas was 2nd and 5th to Laplante's 2nd & 12th - so there's no "ambiguity".

I certainly didn't mean to imply that Laplante isn't a stellar player, and, as I might have said, that Andreas won by a landslide - I just meant the decision wasn't fuzzy/mathy.

This episode was so great, I have to listen to it a second time (at least).

I was even there with everything happening in front of me, but I still love to hear that again and again.

The closing jingle is a lie, though, as there will be no episode next week. T-T

Haha! I'll add that to the errata for the episode.

Wait... no I don't. T-T

Can't wait for the new season.

Do you mean the pictures of Valar Alcoholis? Next year I try to provide more pictures and infornation.

Thanks for all the kind words guys, but i'm not that a "Stellar" player, i'm more a "Vegetable" player !

And that's crazy for a guy call Laplante (The plant, if anyone was wandering ...) to be so bad at green challenges :P.

Gratz to Both champion, Jakob you're defenitily badass, the King in the North is so proud, Don, well done buddy, and no woerries, i'll take my revenge soon enough :P !

I'm rather late since the short commute these days has really cut into my podcast listening time, but I wanted to tell you guys that you went out this year on a great episode. Solid interviews all around!

And man was Aaron right about the word "apisode."
