Beyond the Wall Istaril Darknoj Vapaad Aloof & Apart AGOT Podcast
It's good to be back! Deluding ourselves into believing we have new listeners, we re-introduce ourselves and the podcast. We go over the considerable amount of news since last season's finale, including some urgent Gencon information. For the meat of the episode, we bring back a favourite guest: Dave S (Vaapad), to chat about this cycle's "new mechanic": Aloof & Apart. Finally, in the closing comments, we promote what's likely to be one of the craziest tournaments of the year...

Due to not one, but two, hard drive failures, I've had to recreate a lot of the podcast settings from memory. Please let me know if anything sounds off (e.g. is in stereo, pitch is too far off, sound quality settings) compared to last season, so I can tweak things back to where they should be.
Seizing the Prize is a reasonable counter to Aloof and Apart. I do expect at least 20% of the field to try the new agenda, and I agree that the gold curve is essentially opposite from normal decks (1s and 4s instead of 2s and 3s).
Also, I'm glad you guys are back. Great discussion today.
i've found A&A underwhelming, so i don't expect that many A&A decks in any tourney (btw haven't heard the cast yet)
Underwhelming or not, there were a few AAA decks in a tournament I was in at the weekend - 5/20 in fact, and one of them made top 4. Seems to work quite well out of Stark, giving them economy to play even more damned annoying locations: Frozen Moat, Raventree Hall, Frozen Outpost etc. Oh and cancel-effect-against-a-noble Eddard Stark has definitely staged a comeback ...
Unrestricted, underrated tournament? Sounds like fun. Paging all Wildlings. Paging all The North agendas.
hmm stark seems like a good option with their better army catalog
Many thanks for the promotion guys I really appreciate it. I forgot to mention it to Alex but we've got a gentlemen's agreement against infinite combos in place, so we should be free of any of that sort of tomfoolery.
For anyone who doesn't have access to facebook, this is the CGDB thread for Where Others Fear to Tread.
Cards banned and with errata are so for a reason, and thats spells combo, OP and NPE. I hope that such a tournament where those are allowed could be fun for more than one round, but I doubt it. A fun idea in theory (only, imo).
I would largely argue (just now listening to podcast) that Martell has a better option to Aloof in Apart agenda wise...in no Agenda. I'm not sure I want to run AaA and give up the Three Amigos. I just can't think of a good reason why I would want to do that.
Well, there's a decent chance you were already running TRV, Arianne, the Bannermen (depending on your build), and possibly even Doran - so even that No Agenda gains some reasonable benefit 'as is' by going to A&A. The bigger cost is probably the loss of GG, not of the three amigos. In the current mel's favour environment, letting you squeeze in some more no attachment armies is a pretty valid strategy.
A listener did make the point that we were dismissive of GJ A&A, because while many of its good 4+ costers do better in BS, there are some examples that don't (e.g. Hammerhorn Raiders), and GJ is probably the most adaptable at the cost-curve level to compensate for A&A.
I'm still not sold that makes A&A a good deck, but it's a very valid point.
