Beyond the Wall Istaril Darknoj pulseglazer deckbuilding rules Baratheon 2.0 Podcast AGOT
So... after last week's hectic news coverage, the world apparently takes a breather and gives us almost no news to go over. Istaril & Darknoj go over some of the deckbuilding "guidelines/best practices" in 1.0 - why they exist, whether they're still valid, and whether they're likely to hold true in 2.0. Following that, we bring on Aaron G (pulseglazer) to continue this week's trend of cross-contaminating podcasts, and discuss the 2.0 news. We close off listing

Ohh SO Meera is not that good? Lets unrestrict her than
The spoiler sounds pretty sick! Thanks guys!
Must have slept through the podcast because i missed it somehow.
Stuff I thought about while listening:
1) I thought 2.0 was supposed to be removing the need to remember things throughout the round. The Red Keep should be worded like The Wall, and kneel when you lose a power challenge (Forced Reaction), preventing you from kneeling it to draw. I am disappoint.
2) Bara is awesome.
3) I miss Jon saying "apisode".
That is a great point on the red keep vs the wall. I assume it was just a question of space (although seriously, they could have stripped that +2 str ability and the card would STILL be great).
I am with you on 2). You are wrong about 3).
Really good episode. I thought that the intersection between 1.0 and 2.0 content was particularly enlightening. And, of course, this one intersects well with Friday's 2C1C.
Although, I found the final segment a little weak. Your guest host didn't seem very energetic or have many opinions. Has he podcasted before?
Added the spoiler - sorry for the delay (Thanks to Derrick M. for pointing out I had not yet!)
The Wall can be stood back up to be triggered at the end of the phase if you lose an unopposed challenge, so it's technically not shut off completely.
The Red Keep cannot even trigger when you lose a Power challenge, so it's restriction ends up being different enough that it will stay in check with location stand tech if there is any in the core set or future expansions.
Your point is still worthwhile though because the only harm in forcing you to kneel The Red Keep is that it is now an eligible target for anything that targets knelt locations, which wouldn't really be all that bad if it ends up being damn good. I'm of the opinion that The Red Keep will be used in every Baratheon deck for a really long time. I'll be surprised if they release enough better cards soon that someone will think "The Red Keep doesn't have a good place in my deck.".
Historically speaking Valar didn't see too much play or even define the game until around the time of Brotherhood without Banners and Maester cycle. This was because the first 3 cycles were dominated by Baratheon rush:dupes, bodyguards, 2x Power of Blood - Valar doesn't do much here. Thou they did use it at times offensively. The other deck type which dominated as well was Lannister hyper kneel which often drew more cards than the others so you didn't want to use Valar against that either. Wildfire Assault was seeing more play from the Lannister kneel since they could still easily control 3 characters left on the board.
Defenders of the North cycle destroyed the domination of Lannister and Baratheon, but again you didn't really want to play Valar in an environment where the other player is using 6 agendas and one the plots in opponents arsenal was unrestricted Fear of Winter.
After 6 agenda decks were dealt with and Bara still staying crushed Valar started to see more play and get to the position where it started to define the game.
At least this is from my and WWDrakeys memory of our meta here in EU.
Are we safe to assume new Mel can trigger herself, like the castellan?
