Beyond the Wall Istaril Darknoj Lauren Restricted List Podcast AGOT
This week the table of contents, intro, and closing segments are as small as I could make them, because the main segment ran a little long. And we naively thought it would make a good segment to fill out an existing episode! At the skype group's request, we discuss the current restricted list - when and why each card was put there, why they're still there, and whether they should be. Joining us for it is returning guest Lauren aka "The Fitch that wins".

Will be good to get different perspectives on it.
Very good episode! Nice to hear Lauren on again.
I would like Bloodthirst or the Orphan off the list. I have a Bloodthirst with 30+ characters and is a lot of fun but I want the Orphans. I also think the Princes plan has been neutered enough and should come off. Bran coming off would be cool.
I want to take a minute here and apologize - we really did scoop 2C1C's topic here. We had asked, and it had come up in the skype group (as I stated) from people like Adem and Ванчо. It turns out that discussion had been sparked by Kennon mentioning they'd already recorded on the subject.
I hadn't seen that comment amid the usual skype vortices, but this one is wholly our screw-up, and seriously bad form to boot. I really am sorry. When I next have my computer to edit, I'll re-cut this episode to include an apology - and expect the same in next week's episode.
That said, I do look forward to hearing 2C1C's take on the subject, as I do their CP reviews. It's always nice to be able to compare and contrast.
I like the mea culpa but I also think its perfectly fine. I think both casts have very different voices and its nice to see all viewpoints. Engenders good discussion in all metas imo.
Side note: we just had a Targ HH win a Chicago SC. The deck is definitely not dead.
Hey Alex, apparently this wasn't accidental! Jon just admitted to me it was on purpose that he took this from Kennon. AND that he told you this! Way to Littlefinger that **** up!
From you guys!
"That's not a bad idea. A lot of them are there for historical reasons
help us come up with a topic of discussion for your rival podcast?
[3/6/2015 4:38:49 PM] Kennon: hahaha, it's tricky enough to come up with our own topics!
[3/6/2015 4:39:14 PM] James Waumsley: eventually one of you will cave and talk about HoD Highgarden, I can feel it
[3/6/2015 4:39:32 PM] James Waumsley: I'll have to take it to Stahleck and win the tourney to force your hands
[3/6/2015 4:40:03 PM] Kennon: though, I will admit that we'd heard some rumblings from people that they would kind of like a play by play on each card in the restricted list and why it's actually on there,
Funny, you skipped the line after -
[3/6/2015 4:41:03 PM] Kennon: so i'll admit we have that recorded. might not be exciting for listeners if btw does that the same wee
Honestly i thought Kennon was joking about having actual already done that topic. Others had mentioned it the day before as well when i had asked for idea's. It sucks you guys had really done it and i am sorry for the misunderstanding. I could have easily just message you to confirm but i did not think of it so my bad. I owe you and him a beer at least.
says the guy i sent this all too. lol
All I know is Hynie lies!
As far as the pronunciation of Castellan, I think Lauren has it right. I am basing this on an infallible linguistic source vaguely remembered from my youth - classic Doctor Who.

If the mind blowing acting and special effects are too much for you, jump to about 1:50
Hynesy!
Well I am glad you both have covered the topic. Personally neither podcast usually hits all the same material, and if you have both recorded it without hearing the others cast, then it will be interesting listening and comparing as usual no doubt.

I detect Shearers voice on the end of the cast, is that archive or is he coming up to do a guest bit? Perhaps he can prove to Darknoj that Tunnels IS in fact Tier 1?
Also, our 5 man Store Champs (massive I know) was won by Targ 222 with Long Lances.
you may have in fact heard a Shear....
I think it might be a fun idea for you guys to do a combined podcast on a minor topic of debate anyway. I suggest minor topic because that would be more manageable for the number of participants. It could even be it's own monthly podcast segment.
"Beyond the Wall with 2C1C" or "2C1C Beyond the Wall"
or even better...
"Battle at the Wall"
We had talked once or twice before about doing some kind of host exchange program. Possibly for a CP review or something. Can you imagine if we shipped Darryl over there for an episode?
Hmm... seems like Beyond the Wall takes the "Bad publicity=Good publicity" much more seriously. I am all in for one episode, where Will and Alex have to do a verbal dispute on a burning plank, while Jon, Darryl, Kyle and Aaron duke it out in a melee with bare hands over the only bucket with water.
On a side note, nice episode, though I disagree with a lot of cards which could get of the list because of "Harrenhal". I would rather put Harrenhal onto the list, because of the same argument why so many other cards like the Fury plots or S&D are there: every deck runs them.
I didn't have a ready computer, so I didn't want to add fuel to the fire, but as soon as I found out that 2c1c had recorded on the topic, I posted that apology and emailed 2c1c personally as well. I didn't know, Jon thought Kennon was joking. It sucks, and we're sorry.
While I'm not above the idea of all publicity being good (and a perceived rivalry between casts can be fun/engaging), I think we've already reached saturation in this 'market', and a screw-up like this one certainly doesn't help either of us in the long run.
It's not just Harrenhal - I think Royal Decree offers a flexibility we didn't have before for dealing with influence based events like Prince's Plans and Hatchling's Feast, doubly-so because the power gain can actually hinder the kind of decks that look to use those effects.
I still don't use Harrenhal, for its considerable tempo cost, in the vast majority of my decks (I didn't use it at worlds, for instance, and nor did Jon at Worlds or Gencon), so I don't really feel it qualifies as an 'auto-include'. Admittedly, we wouldn't want to drive it to being so by unrestricting too many of those effects.
Every time Alex talks, he makes it worse! Someone Harrenhal him!
You sure you mean Alex? I'd say Noj is the culprit....
I personally never met someone who played Royal Decree. Personally I think it falls flat in comparison to Harrenhal, as it has some negative aspects (no setup, only able to cancel events, prized, no multiple uses per card) and only the positive aspect that you don't have to kill a character (which can be a huge tempo swing, I agree on that).
