Crimson and Gold: Regionals Results & Analysis

In the interest of making sure everyone has access to as much data as possible, I’ve collected results from many different threads and reports. If it was posted somewhere on the internet, then it’s probably included.

Agenda Breakdown: All Houses

What you’re about to see does not take into account how many times the agenda was used by all participants because that information isn’t always available. Rather, this is only how many times it was used by those who made the top 4/8/16 cut.

The Long Voyage: 20x First Place and 56x Made the Cut
Knights of the Hollow Hill: 5x First Place and 23x Made the Cut
The Maesters Path: 5x First Place and 26x Made the Cut
House of Dreams: 6x First Place and 37x Made the Cut
No Agenda: 4x First Place and 28x Made the Cut
Black Sails: 3x First Place and 14x Made the Cut

TLV has won 20 regionals compared to 23 for KotHH, Maesters, HoD, No Agenda and Black Sails combined. So, yeah, it’s bonkers.

Now let’s move on to specific Houses. I’m only listing the most significant Agendas for each House. For example, if just 1 person made cut with Targ Kings of Summer, don’t expect to find it here.

Targaryen

Total: 11x First Place and 52x Made the Cut

The Long Voyage: 4x First Place and 12x Made the Cut
Knights of the Hollow Hill: 3x First Place and 15x Made the Cut
The Maesters Path: 3x First Place and 15x Made the Cut
House of Dreams: 1x First Place and 6x Made the Cut

Greyjoy

Total: 10x First Place and 57x Made the Cut

The Long Voyage: 6x First Place and 17x Made the Cut
The Maesters Path: 1x First Place and 4x Made the Cut
House of Dreams: 2x First Place and 12x Made the Cut
No Agenda: 0x First Place and 8x Made the Cut
Black Sails: 1x First Place and 11x Made the Cut
Kings of Winter: 0x First Place and 5x Made the Cut

Baratheon

Total: 7x First Place and 25x Made the Cut

The Long Voyage: 4x First Place and 9x Made the Cut
Wildlings: 1x First Place and 4x Made the Cut
Black Sails: 2x First Place and 3x Made the Cut

Martell

Total: 10x First Place and 32x Made the Cut

The Long Voyage: 5x First Place and 11x Made the Cut
Knights of the Hollow Hill: 2x First Place and 8x Made the Cut
No Agenda: 2x First Place and 7x Made the Cut
Brotherhood: 1x First Place and 3x Made the Cut

Stark

Total: 7x First Place and 38x Made the Cut

The Long Voyage: 0x First Place and 6x Made the Cut
Siege of Winterfell: 2x First Place and 11x Made the Cut
The Maesters Path: 1x First Place and 6x Made the Cut
House of Dreams: 1x First Place and 5x Made the Cut
No Agenda: 2x First Place and 8x Made the Cut

Lannister

Totals: 7x First Place and 34x Made the Cut

The Long Voyage: 1x First Place and 1x Made the Cut
House of Dreams: 2x First Place and 11x Made the Cut
Power Behind the Throne: 2x First Place and 15x Made the Cut
Treaty With the Isles: 1x First Place and 2x Made the Cut
Wildlings: 1x First Place and 1x Made the Cut
City of Shadows: 0x First Place and 2x Made the Cut

So there you have it. Now, what can a crafty Lannister player do with all this information? Well, step 1 is probably to cry a little, because Targaryen and Greyjoy are dominating the scene right now.

Step 2: Put away the Power Behind the Throne decks. The top 4/8 numbers here make it look like PBtT is actually doing quite well, but if you consider that roughly half of all Lanni players run this particular agenda, the picture’s not so pretty. If you enjoy PBtT and you’re out for a good time, then by all means stay the course, but if you want to win a large/competitive tournament, then look elsewhere.

Step 3: Run a full set of A House Divided (WLL) if you aren’t already. Send those pesky Ironborns, Allies, Armies, Maesters, Lords and Ladies packing and back to the top of your opponent’s deck. This event is tearing it up, and along with Cersei's Scheme (TPoL), it’s one of the few compelling reasons to run Lanni right now.

Step 4: Pick up the Long Voyage, sleeve it, and find 25 other sleeves to fill out your deck. It’s time to give other TLV players a taste of their own medicine. The Arbor Guardsman (TCC) singlehandedly makes hyperkneel relevant again, so give that a shot out of TLV, or if you must buck the trend, perhaps a No Agenda deck with Ser Kevan Lannister (VM) and House Clegane Brigands (AToTT).

That’s all for this week. Good Luck!

Other than perhaps the ubiquity of The Long Voyage (which I don't mind, but I'm also one of those TLV wins tallied up there), I think these results are super encouraging. There really isn't a clear cut winner or loser among the houses right now, more like a fairly even split in tiers.

You've got Targ, Greyjoy, and Martell getting the most wins, but almost an even number between them, but Stark, Lanni, and Bara aren't too far behind either. Total parity might be ideal, but I'm not sure that's realistically possible, but this is still amazingly balanced. You look back on previous years results, and you would have one house dominating by a pretty wide margin, a few other houses doing well, and one or two houses that were nearly dead. I'm looking at you Bara. Good job, Baratheon! Way to be on a nearly level playing field!

But I think the agenda breakdown there also shows some good signs. When you just show the overall most popular agendas, it's a bit monotonous, particularly with The Long Voyage being the bee's knees right now. Also, apparently The Long Voyage is crap for Stark, no one is winning with TLV Stark. But you're also seeing a lot of No Agenda decks, which I think is encouraging; I'd be curious to see that broken down further between Charagenda decks and true No Agenda decks, but that data'd be harder to have.

And then you look at the house-by-house numbers, and you see some underplayed agendas doing pretty well. They're not tearing up the scene, but I consider it a great sign that people are playing and winning with Wildlings, Brotherhood, City of Shadows, and even Treaty of the Isles. A Treaty agenda is seeing play!

God, I hate A House Divided :)

That really wrecks your plans and it's something you always need to take into account playing against Lanni, as well as I'm Your Writ Small. That changes entirely the way you play against a Lannister deck, either not playing dudes with the same trait or defending with only one unique key character.

I second that. I Made the Cut with Greyjoy Maesters this season, and A House Divided was a significant annoyance during more than one game.

I can only imagine all the chains lost due to AHD :D
It seems weird to me that only 6 HoD Targ decks made the cut overall... At least 3 HoD Locations made the cut at the French Regionals. Unless you didn't count them because the cut was made at 32 -because we had more than a hundred players, btw ;)

Nice job, scantrell! I know you went to a lot of effort to compile all of this. It feels weird contributing to 1/5 of the total Greyjoy wins for the season, and being the only two wins for that House with HoD to boot.
Is the only GJ BS win the one from Warsaw Regionals, or did you not include those?

So did Stark really win 7, or is the breakdown for stark a typo? Because with that breakdown, the first places add up to 6, not 7.

That was in a fact a typo. Stark won 7 with Kindly Man / No Agenda having been 3 of those. I've checked the rest of the results again and everything else is accurate.
