Forgotten Plans - Unhealthy Attachment

Small Council Forgotten Plans Staton

Hello Readers, and welcome back to Forgotten Plans! It's been quite a while since we've had a Forgotten Plans article up, so I'm going to be doing a Top 5 this week, rather than looking at just one card. As I was starting to get back into the game, I noticed that attachments still aren't all that popular, and that negative attachments were even less so. This seemed a bit odd to me since there seemed to be some pretty powerful characters and locations running around out there. Couple this with the fact that I honestly haven't seen hardly any attachment control running around, and attachments are looking pretty good right now. So let's take a look at the Top 5 attachments you should be considering!

[CRB='/forums/uploads/1281901134/ffg_gallery_11_21703.jpg']1. Milk of the Popppy - This is the classic, "I think your guy has a huge text box and I just can't be bothered to read it" card. It's only 1 gold, and it's neutral, which means that almost anyone can find room in their deck for this card. What I like about this card is that it doesn't have any conditional effects, like Motley (Core). The character is blank, and you are going to have to get rid of it if you want to do anything other than attack or defend with your character. The downside is that Milk is a Condition attachment, so it gets hit by the highest number of cards, like Maester Cressen (Core) and Maester of Lemonwood (BtW). Luckily, those cards don't seem to be that popular at the moment.[/CRB]

[CRB='/forums/uploads/1281656500/ffg_gallery_6_16988.jpg']2. Bowl of Brown - This card is essentially the opposite of Fishing Net (ASoS) in that instead of not letting it attack or defend, it only let's the character attack or defend. Throw this on something like Maester Wendamyr (KotS) and he becomes a 1 str weenie with an intrigue icon. The best part is that they can't even kneel the character to pay for cards like Confession (KotS). They literally can only sit there and attack or defend. At 0 gold it is pretty easy to throw this into a deck if you think you are going up against a deck full of utility characters.[/CRB]

[CRB='/forums/uploads/got/ffg_poisoned-coin-thobaw.jpg']3. Poisoned Coin - This card is pretty much a win/win more card. You attach it to a character and the owner has 2 options. He either kills the character for claim or through a reset like Valar Morghulis (Core) or Wildfire Assault (Core). His other option is to actually use the character, after which it will stand and be killed anyway, but this time will net you a card as well. This just so happens to be a Weapon attachment as well, so you get to put it on more characters than often. At 1 gold you could fit it into your deck without disrupting the gold curve too much.[/CRB]

[CRB='/forums/uploads/1281117521/ffg_gallery_5_335696.jpg']4. Climbing Spikes - Wildlings don't really seem to be that popular right now, but if you are running Wildlings, this attachment is an auto include for me. Not only is it cheap, but it has built in Immunity as well. In order to get their location back, you opponent not only has to wipe your board of Wildlings, but also have attachment control at that instance. This is about as close to a Frozen Solid (LoW) that Non-Stark players are going to get.[/CRB]

[CRB='/forums/uploads/1281901163/ffg_gallery_11_62788.jpg']5. Motley - This card used to be much higher on the list than it is now. The problem is that people have just become much better at managing their resources. It really doesn't hurt to have to keep around an extra one or two gold every turn. At 0 cost though, this card is still probably worth a slot or two. Something to note is that using a dupe to save a character is actually a gain character ability. So a character with Motley would need to spend gold to trigger the dupe. Its always fun to throw this on someone and then Valar when they have no gold.[/CRB]

So there are the 5 attachments that I feel are undervalued or under played right now. Let me know what you guys think, and if it missed anything major. As a member of the Small council, I reserve the right to be wrong about anything and everything at any time. Tune in next time for Forgotten Plans!

I think the basis for not using this att is that armies are in vogue.....and sadly they are "no attachments"
I agree attachments aren't as useful as they were, but you can't build a deck with only armies! There are always those power uniques that you can throw Milk of the Poppy on. I mean cards typically end up being "forgotten plans" for a reason. I think these deserve an extra look though, especially with the popularity of Quentyn decks. He can't die and become an agenda if he is blanked!

maybe...but what makes that deck win is the combination of these three parts: vbannermen with manning, ggrey with nobles (not blanked by milk), choosing the spears and greenblood merchant for winning those important challenges.
Alright, fine! Bad example! heh. Still, there are decks out there that do get hurt by these attachments, and I do think they are worth a second look. Although I would like to point out the second to last sentence. :P

Motley may be on the bottom of your list, but when your opponent tosses out 2-3 of those on various characters + makes it winter for their HoD The Wall deck... it hurts.

heh. You know, I was just looking for ideas for my HoD Iron Throne deck. Good man! I suppose I should say that these aren't in any particular order.

I agree that negative att are being a bit overlook (although i saw milk in a few games at gencon), but i was just arguing the reasons why positive att are better right now. Also, bastard and sunstroke would be one of the best ones (negative ones).

Yeah I thought long and hard about bastard, but it just missed the list. Sunstroke I had completely forgotten, but Keggy had suggested it after the article was done. Good call on that attachment.
Milk of the Poppy is so good. I was running 2 at gencon, and it won me 3 matches by milking a person's power hitter (asha in a PBtT deck, Super Stannis, and a Hyper Viper). Even if you can't knock out a persons power hitter you can still knock out someone's utility card. I have yet to see a deck where this 1 gold card can't mess up someone's day.

Bastard is also really good. Aside from taking away a power icon, which is nice, it is a silver bullet to maesters.

Also, Black Sails makes these cards shine because you can go looking for them if you trigger your agenda. So if you really need them, you can just go grab one from your hold.
I would say that Bastard and Sun Stroke aren't really forgotten these days. In fact, Sun Stroke is seeing something of a resurgence IMO.

Of course, we can debate the semantics between "forgotten," "underused," "undervalued," "underplayed," and what not, but I think the above five are pretty decent choices.

I wonder if anyone is running a Targ attachment deck using the new attachment discount location and the new Bannerman card.

Oh wait, it looks like I"m the man for the job!

I think number 6 on this listed would probably be Rusted Sword (PotS). Not just for Maesters either, Melisandre, Arianne Martell etc, and the ability to pseduo-ambush it in is gold dust sometimes.

Big fan of some of the Asshai attachments too - Black Amethysts as zero cost and playable in setup, and the
Ruby of R'hllor (KotStorm) because of its vigilant drawing ability, especially with the number of discard decks currently around.

I cant remember the lase time I built a targ deck without sunstroke in it tbh.

What deck were you playing? I know I had Stannis milked in two of my games. :(

Also, was Cressen in that deck or did you just not draw him either time?
oh! I completely forgot that was you. I thought you were the other guy who milked me. lol Anyway, Cressen was not in the deck. He is currently in my version of the deck, however.
hahahaha thats why i hate board names ;)
I still say you should be Francisco G$ (read as G Money)

Sunstoke is pretty fantastic, mostly for the "cannot be saved" but the response is solid as well. I've actually got SS in my Quentyn deck that uses A Game of Cyvasse (ACoS). Can't be saved from the bounce! Would work well in a GG build as well for real trouble characters
I can't remember the last time Nate played Sunstroke and I wasn't pissed off...

The mark of a true friendship! Getting pissed over Thrones! Which reminds me, Maester Luke and I are bff's.

I think bowl of brown is overrated - most of the cards I'd put them on have passive abilities that it doesn't work for (e.g Mel, Baelor Blacktyde, Stannis, The Spar)

On the other hand, I've often thought Climbing Spikes was way underrated, especially if you splash wildlings like Val, Ygritte, and Orell the Eagle (not uncommon in Bara, which coincidentally has only a little location control)

I'm also a *huge* fan of Banner Bearer, especially with super Stannis - it's a setup event!
