Ours is the Fury - The Nobility

Small Council Ours is the Fury Staton Baratheon
I think by now it is fairly obvious that my favorite Baratheon deck is a Noble Rush Deck. The whole strategy is pretty much in the title, you draw awesome Baratheon Noble-crested characters, you play those characters, and then you win. This is not a simplified version of the strategy, it is the whole thing in all its glory! Seriously, the number one issue that people seem to have with this deck is they try and get tricksy. There's no need! You draw guys, play guys, and then you win challenges with them until you have 15 power, that is it. I am getting a bit ahead of myself though, so let's take a look at the decklist itself. Rather than taking up a bunch of real estate here, I'm just going to link to the deck here: Ours is the Fury - Nobel Rush Deck.
The first thing you'll notice is that I'm not using Val (RotO) and The Laughing Storm (GotC). I'm actually using Kings of Summer (ASoS) and Samwell Tarly (TRS) for my draw engine. I really really dislike relying on Val for my draw engine since she can be shut down fairly easily. I know a lot of people might disagree with that, but that's why I went with Summer and Sam. I also have given myself card advantage by making the deck pretty redundant in the fact that I am running so many duplicates. Technically it increases the chance that I might have a dead card in hand, but between two turns of The Power of Blood (Core) I should be able to draw some combination of dupes, Loyal Guard (WotN), and Bodyguard (Core). Also, I am running Narrow Escape (KotStorm) as my restricted card, so even if I draw absolutely zero ways to save from a reset, I should at least have drawn a Narrow Escape. Sure they can discard their hand to cancel it, but then we are on a pretty even footing at that point, and I'm banking on my stronger character base at that point. Another key card in this deck is Eddard Stark (TTotH). The fact that he can cancel one card per phase is extremely good! That Orphan of the Greenblood (PotS)? Yeah, better make sure you have two of them now if you want to take anyone's icons! Plus, you can always use Selyse Baratheon (Core) in a pinch to target Eddard and then cancel it and draw a card!
So let's take a look at the various choices I made on unique characters. I chose Renly Baratheon (KotStorm) for my one true King! Now it should be pointed out that I am still a staunch Stannis man, but sometimes you have to make sacrifices, and there isn't really a good king Stannis. No, not even that one! This Renly is pretty much the best resource card in my deck, and significantly lowers the gold curve of the deck. Part of the strategy of this deck is to lay out as many characters with renown as possible so you can maximize the power gain from each challenge, and Renly really empowers that strategy. If you can get him out on turn 1, he will most likely pay for himself by turn 2, and anything after that is just profit! So since I went with King Renly, I had to go with Robert Baratheon (Core) who is still a house! No surprises on Stannis Baratheon (Core) or Melisandre (RotO). I chose
Margaery Tyrell (ASitD) because she is great at handling those nasty passive plots like Threat from the North (PotS), Fear of Winter (BtW), etc. The other Margaery is good too, but not really worthwhile in this deck. Since it is a Summer deck, you might want to use Selyse Baratheon (ASoS) over Selyse Baratheon (Core), but I like being able to give extra icons over potential recursion since you are trying to maximize power gain rather than card advantage. This decklist actually needs some Stormlands Fiefdoms (Core) to be honest, but couldn't find a spot for them. Bonus points if you can find a way of getting them in there!
So I want to go back and take a look at exactly how you want to play this deck. I had said earlier that you draw dudes, play dudes, and win challenges with said dudes, and I meant it. There aren't any tricks or gimmicks here, which is why I think it is so successful in tournament play. There just isn't much of anything for control decks to disrupt. You HAVE to attack the character base if you want to disrupt it, but there are just too many targets for control to be effective in the early game. If its the first turn you probably want to have out at least one weenie for claim soak, but after that just play any dude with renown you have in hand. Don't be afraid to defend challenges either if you can win. That guy is attack in a military with 7 STR? Defend with 9 and claim 4 power for renown! Claim is almost meaningless for your deck, the real claim is renown and unopposed power. So winning on defense isn't really that bad because you are still getting your renown. You probably want to lead with Retaliation into a Power of Blood. Now here's where it gets tricky, because if you are confident, you can get away with playing something like Rule by Decree on turn 3 instead of another Power of Blood. The trick I have found to work is to figure out if you are going to play Power of Blood number 2 say by the Dominance phase and if you aren't pick your plot ahead of time. You want to quickly look at your plot deck, pick your plot and throw it down like it took no thought at all. Your opponent will more than likely just assume it was your second Power of Blood and not play Valar (unless he has read this article, so make sure your opponent can't read and/or doesn't know what the internet is. Your best bet is probably Stag Lord.) which will give you an extra turn to try and get to 15 power.
Well that is the deck in a nutshell, and I'm sure I left out some crucial piece of information, so feel free to ask any and all questions in the comments!

So I think it'll end up being a double-edged sword, where you will be evermore reliant on bluffing games and good timing with Power of Blood. I can easily see this lead into complex plot shenanigans with pre-plot L&L's used to force Power of Bloods out, opponents adapting to play defensively and holding their L&L's in hand for a hard reset after the Power of Bloods are over etc.
Actually, I'd say that Noble Rush isn't even one of the best decks for L&L. It's much more suited for more Aggro stuff with less reliance on dupes or specific characters. In Baratheon that would probably mean Wildlings or Knights pushing through 2-claim challenges turn after turn.
Are you sure he is the guy for a rush deck? Turn 2, or after? I my eye that is not a rush deck
He is a super card for any aggro deck, but for the rush you need characters like: Stannis Baratheon (VM) and Knight of Flowers (SaS).
For the influence part maybe Braavos (VD), Myr (AHM), Norvos (VD). So you have some passive reducers for knight, lady and lord chars, and still have influence.
Yes. Each duplicate gives the character a separate Response:, and thus it is considered both a character ability (can be cancelled by The Iron Throne (LotR)) and a Response: (can be stopped by Little and Less (ARotD) and cancelled by He Calls It Thinking (PotS)). Furthermore the duplicates are considered to be blank nonunique cards, so they can even be hit by Wintertime Marauders (ACoS).
I like running
Stannis Baratheon (VM) and Banner Bearer (THoBaW) to really rush hard. Condemned to keep the true king, king.
Pair him up with Brienne of Tarth (PotS) and you shut down any shenanigans.
It's a combo though so setting it up is the trick.
Of course to really support this theme you want as many challenges as possible, so you'd run epic battles and shadow politics (plus something to give them intrigue icons) which would make it a completely different deck.
I should probably try the noble rush deck you've made, but I'd probably tweak it to be a knights of the realm deck.
I have some questions about this deck:
1) Isn't Bodyguard better suited than Loyal Guard considering that every Noble is a Lord or a Lady but not the other way round.
2) Do you feel that Joffrey is worth the slot? Especially because the deck doesn't play Condemned by the Council and there aren't that many Small Council event cards that are worth playing.
3) I personally have the feeling that Summer Champion is a little bit out of place and that I like the third Royal Entourage and the third Bodyguard more. What are your thought processes behind Summer Champion?
2. Joffrey is worth it, imo, because he is only 2 cost and is renown. He's pretty much cheap claim soak that will net me some extra power, and he's another Lord for Red Wedding.
3. I don't think that Summer Champion is out of place at all. He's an intrigue icon in a deck that doesn't have THAT much intrigue, so he helps out there a lot. Also, he's got renown and is only three cost (two cost if you have Renly) and four str. Royal Entourage is nice, but is just claim soak really. The Summer Champion is more important, kinda like that Stannis in terms of importance for me. I want to keep him around, whereas I'm not losing any sleep over killing the Royal Entourage.
I could see that Melisandre in a bit of a slower deck, but there aren't many decks that are going to out rush this deck, so you should be fine. If you are expecting to play against a lot of Dragon decks though, you might want to play her. They can get off a scary amount of power.
Yeah the deck your describing is very very different than the one I have here. I'm not saying that its worse or anything, just different. I'd be interested in seeing a decklist and some description on what decks it does good/bad against. The reason I like Summer Nobles more than Knights of the Realm is that it tends to be a bit more reliable. Knights can be a bit iffy on what you draw, and you are able to rely less on key characters because Knights are so flexible, but Summer Nobles tend to just do its thing. You draw the same dudes every game, play those dudes, and profit. Knights are a great build, just not my cup of tea.
1) Loyal Guard is not vulnerable to attachment control, and can save from more things than just kill and discard.
2) I guess he's more in because he's a 2-gold renown guy than for the effect. Besides, it it does get off, unlikely as it may be, it's pretty nice.
3) Dude, he's not too shabby even without summer. As a 3-for-4 guy with an INT icon, he's efficient, provides much needed INT punch and protects from Cyvasse. The renown from summer pushes him from solid to awesome.
Yeah, those locations might be helpful, I'd have to play around with it though. I'd probably try and take out the Summer Ports first.
Now, King Renly over King Stannis, why? Well, first of all, King Stannis is really putting a lot of eggs in one basket. If he gets blanked or returned to hand, or killed, you take a huge hit. If I get Renly blanked or returned to hand, or killed, it sucks, but I'll be fine. Also, Stannis has to be the only King in play, Renly just has to be the only Baratheon King in play. Also, if you play two more characters the turn you play Renly, then you are already spending less gold than on King Stannis. I don't think turn 2 is that late for a rush deck at all. Sure there are all those decks that try and pull off turn 1 or turn 2 wins, but they are so gimmicky or combo oriented, and I really don't like those decks. Summer Nobles does tend to rely on a handful of unique characters, but there are tons of ways to keep them safe, and if I'm not able to keep them safe, its not the end of the world. Also, if I run King Stannis, then I have to run Core Set Renly, which would lower the number of renown dudes I have, and he doesn't have a noble crest.
I could see this working out pretty well. Say put in two or so, and then throwing it down at the beginning of challenges phase to keep crazy stuff out of the way.
Actually, I had using her against your deck type in mind.
Lol fair enough!
This probably seems a bit obvious but I just wanted to check in case I'm missing something. "Threat from the North", you would be triggering her in the second player action window after plots are revealed etc, so str 1's would still have been discarded.
Thanks.
