Kizercast hype!! (will actually listen soon)

    • kizerman86 likes this

Thanks everyone!

Important to note that Treachery will only cancel the effect, but not the cost as cost occurs after effect with Roberts Warhammer. :(

Actually, I believe you get to keep the Warhammer if it gets canceled. Since the discard effect reads "then sacrifice King Robert's Warhammer," if the effect is canceled then you do not have to sacrifice the hammer.

It is best to page Alex on these questions though.

Have faith in yourself, Roy! You are correct. Bonus points if you can figure out why it's worded in that order (a reason *other* than the cancel one you mentioned?)

Is it because of the STR boost?

    • istaril and fauxintel like this

I would assume it is. You don't want their strength changing mid effect.

Yup, if the "cost" (in the lay sense, not the rules sense) were first, then the str boost from the warhammer wouldn't be part of the resolution.

This is as off-topic as it gets, so I apologize. I carved a pumpkin for the first time in about a decade this week and have a completely new level of respect for your avatar, Istaril.

That's pretty much the last one I carved... 3 years ago. I'll carve something this year, but I'm currently absurdly swamped, so I haven't even thought of a design yet. Oddly, my current one would be more fitting this year...

Really fantastic episode. The #kizerhype was worth it. I cannot recommend it enough to newer players and I plan on pointing newcomers in NYC in this direction.

I do want to disagree/expand on your general archetype discussion. I know (from totally not secret information) that y'all were trying to keep your discussion down to just three types, but you absolutely overlooked a key one - tempo/mid-range. In some ways you conflated this with "aggro" but I would argue they are fundamentally different. Tempo decks are not necessarily trying to wear their opponent down through steady pressure of challenges but rather seeks to constantly have a steady "resource advantage" (as we coined last week) over opponent - particularly through card quality (you have better characters, events, etc.). Tempo decks are asking a steady set of "questions" and forcing your opponent to have answers or fall behind, steadily.* Its preferred challenge is power, over aggro's military or control's intrigue. In many ways such decks are jack of all trades master of none. They will never control as well as a control deck, rush as well as a rush deck, etc. but provide a lot of flexibility to tailor their playstyle to the match up.

*The DC/Kizer Lanni DWDW deck is a 1.0 example of the sort of archetype I am talking about.

Enjoyed the mention of the Aerys playertype. Still listening, today has been crazy busy. Will edit as I go along :P

Edit 1: How come Tulsa has all the best podcast guests. I bet now that Buz isn't there, he's an awful guest.

Edit 2: "A: I pick my plot quickly. K: I pick my plot in the previous challenges phase. W: I pick my plot in marshalling!". Man, I wanted a fourth guest to 1-up you all. Where's Kyle when you need him. "I've already picked my plots before my opponent has sleeved his deck"

Edit 3: I'm really enjoying this cast, but in the spirit of constructive criticism, there's a bit of wonkiness with introducing concepts or referring back to concepts that were obviously recorded in an order other than you aired them. Sometimes it's just a slip of a sentence ("that we'll talk about later"), but sometimes it's repeating introductions to sections (this happens twice).

Edit 4: Dominance as a 4th challenge is actually something the designers have said, on occasion, in interviews. It's something people tend to forget, and I'm glad Will mentioned it in that context.

TIL: All I play is tempo. It's the cool kids' deck.

Lauren's DWDW is very much a tempo deck. Perhaps all DWDW are.

Well, not the greatest DWDW deck - Martell. The amount of pro plays that deck pulls off is ridiculous. Will win Worlds for sure.

DWDW is not all she plays!

Great cast today, especially for new players, although it was a good refresher for myself as well. I've shared the episode in my meta's FB group.

As much as I applaud ya'll for working to make winning decklists public information... thronesdb.com already has a section for tourny winning decklists, and it's way less work.

It has to be tagged when it's first posted, n there's no way to sort or know when, where or how many players to the best of my knowledge. It's a nice feature but they aren't the same.

And card is up!

You can edit yoir published list to tournament winning on thronesdb. The main issue is that you still want to collect tournament info, not just tag the deck.

We could try and get appropriate tournament categories for thronesdb. Right now it is just 2015 winter or 2015 other.
