Priest of the Drowned God: A 3-3 bicon is not that good - Courtesan of the Rose is a vanilla 2 for 2 bicon, which is better than a vanilla 3-3 bicon. It also lacks the Ironborn trait, and the only Drowned God synergy we've seen *at all* is his own ability. I'm not saying he's not efficient (especially with multiple copies!), but for overall power level I wouldn't say the sky is falling yet!

I mean, at the moment, he probably wouldn't slot into my GJ deck...

I no, I didn't want to insinuate that the sky is falling by any means, but it did make me wonder, as he's above the curve that I expected.

43 minutes in, these are my thoughts:

On Priest of the Drowned God: it seems to me like this card is deliberately overpowered in a sense, because it's only overpowered in a specific subtheme. You aren't going to slot 3x Priest of the Drowned God in if you're not building a Drowned God deck (well, maybe you will at first, but a couple of cycles from now you won't). A 3-for-3 bicon is efficient enough, but that's not special by itself - look at the existence of the 3-for-3 bicon that Greyjoy got in the core, for instance. It's customary for a theme you wouldn't normally build to have cards that aren't powerful except in that theme where they are above the curve, because otherwise the theme wouldn't see play. See, for instance, Wintertime Marauders in first edition, or the holy recursion Melisandre. The ultimate version of this I guess is Naval Reinforcements, which is literally blank unless you run a specific agenda! Wouldn't build a Black Sails deck without it though, and if it didn't exist then Black Sails would be a lot harder to run than it is with it. Likewise, Priest of the Drowned God most likely won't make decks (at least once more cards are out) unless they're built around the theme they boost. That seems like a smart design space to me, rather than a worrying trend.

I'm really looking forward to you guys getting past the card reviews and into just general strategy discussion, because the debate on critical mass of R'hllor and the like was really interesting to listen to.

I disagree heavily with the notion of comparing cards to 1.0 equivalents. It's a different game, and making comparisons back when talking about power level is a major trap that's important to avoid. In short I'm with Aaron, which makes me feel dirty to say :P.

A 3 strength intrigue icon in Greyjoy is fantastic. With an ability that only scales up. Solid B. With A art.

First 5 minutes in: "F*uck this, F*uck that, F*uck, F*uckin."  Well this is no longer a cast for my kids to listen to.

This is certainly not a cast for kids to listen to.  We used to have that rating, if it's gone, sorry.

I dislike comparing 1.0 cards to 2.0 cards. The goal in each is to get to 15 power, but the means of getting there are just so different right now that the comparison doesn't hold.

I don't think I'd run Priest for the int icon.  Having the icon on a chud isn't the point.  The point is having it to protect your big guys.

Great cast today guys. Any chance we'll get some exclusive chapter pack spoilers soon?

I wasn't talking about Tears protection. I just mean it is nice to have a 3 strength icon in Greyjoy in general! Maybe we can finally crack our opponent's hand without relying on Little Birds, or better yet, protect our own. The Shipwrights and Alannys can't do it alone!

I remain unsure how much hand attacks matter at this point.  Are you really saving that much stuff?

Good idea... Will?

Hand attacks matter more now that people are catching on to the value of Varys.  Also, it forces your opponent to commit heavily if they want cards from your hand.

Are people catching on to Varys, or are you playing my decks a lot?

Varys should be meta defining. I'm happy he's becoming more so.  Control gets a huge push between him and ... well, you know.

Both.  The last 3 decks I have personally built run 2x Varys and 1x Calling the Banners (1 of them runs 2x).  That Varys -> Marched play is just so good in this meta.

I run 3x Varys always.  In a battle, you don't always want a hand grenade, but it's batter to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I love that analogy Aaron. I am also with you in running 3x in every deck at the moment.

More likely he's thinking "Just wait until 3rd edition comes out. They will all grovel before me!"

Further point- Westeros Bleeds was in a ton of 1st ed decks. It was even more likely to be dead, cancelled or useless than Varys is. Varys is quite a bit easier to put into a deck and, given how important big characters are, even better.

Excellent episode, folks. Excited for future Kizer appearances. #kizerhype

Thinking about the reveal of Bruno's plot - I think y'all should do a segment on the importance of resets in Thrones. Both on a strategic and tactical way in 2.0 games but on a game design level for both editions of the game.

In my opinion, with the core set and spoiled cards, the only real problem with Thrones on a structural level at this point is the lack of a really good reset. WF is kind of crap and Varys can only go so far. First Snow helps but it is not quite there.

D Z !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes !!!!!

*whew* Back from a busy weekend to find quite a few comments. Thanks, guys!

@Tetsubo517- My apologies, Tetsubo. I'll try to remember to note in the future which casts drop the f-bomb.

@Scantrell- Great question about preview cards! Alas, I'm at FFG's mercy on that one, and I don't think they'll be ready to send out more CP previews before the core set is in everyone's hands.

@starhawk77- Ha, if he ever even realized we utilized his music, I would be impressed!

@everyone else - I'll be back again later!

Well, I hope ALL of you can make it next year. No excuses! Congrats again, Kyle!

The idea that every card in your deck can be used as resource is pretty common to other card games. It's a pretty neat idea but isn't that exactly what having Old Forest Hunter is? that's how I use him, he lets you discard cards for gold (limited once per phase) so I draw with Samwell/Littlefinger/Raven, discard some cards to have extra gold and so forth.

I can see an agenda that lets you discard a card for gold limited 2 for round or something like that.
