Geez, what a downer. Agree that the break between cycles is too long though.

Conspiracy indeed, I could picture Mel Gibson, Julia Roberts and Patrick Stewart the entire time Greg was talking !!

This was a good episode I liked the reasoning behind the theory , it was only missing one thing, a ride into the.........

Also Happy Canada day !   eh!

I actually said "Danger Zone" but it was about 0.5 seconds after Will had stopped recording!

Caveat: only 25~ minutes into the episode.

The conspiracy seems kinda far out, if I'm honest. You guys have been playing much longer than me, but the one constant I've observed through the 4-and-a-half years I've been playing this game is:
- FFG openly states their intent to have no gap between cycles;
- There is a gap between cycles;
- FFG communicates nothing regarding the silence.

This was true for Beyond the Narrow Sea, Song of the Sea and the Vale cycles (and may well have been true for the Kingsroad and Conquest&Defiance cycles too, I forget). It was also true for the gap between the pre-release of the core and the general release of the core, and true for the gap between the general release of the core and the release of the first chapter pack. It'd be more astounding if there WASN'T a delay.

On it potentially being available at Gencon: this would absolutely still allow for production/transport issues to be the cause of a delay. There's a huge difference between getting 300-500 copies of a product to one venue and getting ample amounts of the product to various distributors all around the world.

So overall, I think I'm going to have to use the tinfoil for containing the heat of baked goods instead of as a fashionable hat this time round. Looking forward to listening to the rest of the episode!
Sure, normally I'd agree that delays are the norm, despite what FFG claims over and over. Does the recently posted pic of all chapter packs of the new cycle in a pile together sway you at all? It seems interesting to say the least.

It doesn't sway me really, because all it shows is that Asmodee has access to at least one set of packs in Italian. Even if the Italian distributor were to have as many packs as required (which is possible but not confirmed from that picture), it would still not indicate they were sitting on the packs, because I imagine FFG would delay any street date until the English language version was available to distribute. If the problem is with transport/shipping (which is often the case - I seem to recall Christian Petersen confirming as much off-the-record for the delay of the launch of the core sets?), I imagine different language versions are shipped differently, so it seems fairly likely that the Italian (and maybe other) language packs were unscathed but some issue is holding back the English language packs.

So Wamma, you really think it would 'accidental' that we happen to get a delay right before one of the biggest conventions and yet the product just 'magically' is available?

I am aware of shipping/production problems in the past.  I have second hand knowledge of some specific issues in the past as well. However, all of those resulted in an inopportune time for the cards to be released.  I just don't buy it in this case.

But Greg, if there are enough problems over enough years, it stands to reason by law of averages that you'll find one example that looks suspicious in a vacuum, right? And in a vacuum I agree it does look suspicious, but it's not in a vacuum, it's in the context of "this kind of thing always happens".

Personally I still don't think it's an inopportune time for the cards to be released in any case though - you more or less say yourself on the 'cast that none of the arguments for why they'd want to delay the product are as compelling as "they'll make more money releasing the product sooner".

Incidentally, finished the episode, and we can definitely agree the World's Schedule is dreadful at least! WWGD? was a fun segment, I'd like to see little things like that done more often!

My own would be Reinforcements. It's a card I'm genuinely tempted to add to my current deck of choice, but it's just not quite good enough to justify cutting something for...

Glad to hear that you enjoyed WWGD? I was a bit worried that it would be too short after all the prior mess.

Don't forget the Laughing Tree tournament on Tuesday guys!
