Just want to say I enjoy ya'll's "Slaying the Mountain" segment.
I agree with Kyle on Petyr Baelish. The fact he is a character is why he is so good. The versatility is awesome, depends on what house you are playing will depend on whether you want to hold him back or use him in a challenge, and you get to choose. You can use tells to determine what type of cards are in your opponents hand and play accordingly. His stats are solid, no negative traits. His board presence will act as a deterrence.
Yea sorry Aaron but I don't see how a guy with an ability makes him worse. Just because he has a great ability doesn't mean you can't use him in challenges it all depends on the situation but is still very good.
Preventing your opponent from playing events, only by standing is exactly what makes him good, and what makes Harrenhal soo good. You don't need to cancel everything. But your opponent has always to consider that you could.
And I agree with Darryl on the new agenda. It's nothing which makes me very excited, and worse, will not be used very much to play these unique and expensive characters which never see play like Eddard, but to spit out armies on the board. And for this, even the Bloody Gate is better.
But I am all in for House Arryn cards. Gimme more of this.
On a side note: I always have a hard time to understand Aaron. Sometimes he is so silent, sometimes there are some distortions. Don't know if it because of technical issues, or because he is just always yelled over, but I always have to turn my sound boxes up.
With littlefinger: it's not that having an ability makes him worse, it's that there Re other 4 cost dudes who can challenge AND use their ability. He seems good in many decks but not good in most. We'll see.
I don't think anyone is arguing that littlefinger is for all decks, the card pool is way to big for a card to be an auto include, if it isn't unequivocally OP. Aaron was pretty much saying no one is going to play it..... ever. 4 gold is restrictive, I normally only run 1-3 4+ gold characters, but cancelling events on a stick is good. There are some nasty events out there. Who knows maybe my singleton paper shield will still be better.
A neutral character that won't be ubiquitous but will see enough play to justify his existence despite a high cost to play him? God damnit FFG, stop printing reasonable cards this far into the game's card pool!
I think "Petyr Baelish" sees play for sure.
I think I'd be reiterating what others have already said but, at 3 gold and 3 STR with Stealth and being a bicon, you'd probably consider playing that character. At 4 gold with the same stats, now you have an optional protection with him against events where it's either that or using him for a challenge. It's not a bad effect to have for the 1 gold cost increase.
In addition to that, he's House Arryn which means he has use with whatever House Arryn synergy that may come out with this cycle.
I don't think he's a 5/5 on the review scale by any means, but he's not unreasonable for his cost in my opinion and is likely about a 3.5/5. Can't decide between a 3 and 4.
Also it's clear that they have new 3-cost hate and and 4-cost love in this cycle. That has got to mean something for his intrinsic value based on your meta. 3 cost and 3 STR were typically the safe spots to be in with characters. That is no longer entirely true when this cycle is out.
Really enjoyed the episode. One of the best in a while. Lots of good content, discussions, and segments. Definitely like the "Slaying the Mountain" segments. Thanks, as always, for the good work!
