although odds of winning either format was unlikely only one card design is very disappointing :/. Also I am not disappointed in the prizes, however, after reading about a star wars podcast where they wanted to keep prizes a secret I was expecting more.
I'm also disappointed by the lack of a card design for the joust champ. If there's only one, it should go to joust. Overall already gets Robert's Hammer, right?
you guys had me at the Princess Bride quotes !!!
and also Happy Halloween !!
Way better alt art plot choice than Building/Summoning Season.
That actually sounds like a useful alt art card.
As for the single card design, it looks like FFG decided to truly decide what they consider to be the best player- one who does the combined best at both of the sanctioned formats. Sure, it lowers the number of players who get the privelege of designing a card, but it seems like something should have been done to reign that in.
its hard to say i mean this is WORLDs idk if they make it on a much upper level then the national tournaments but the rewards for worlds to me should be greater then the national championships (i guess i am not positive who all makes a card, does gencon winner still get to? what about other countries?) but if they are the same to me that seems wrong that only difference is overall gets a weapon.
If they are going down the road of reducing card designs as prizes, they really should come up with something unique and prestigious that most players would covet. For example, I'd love to be able to help develop a synergy or card type. When I say card type, I mean something along the lines of how Epic Battles are a type of event and Castle plot design is a type of plot interaction. Synergy would be more like helping design a set of cards that may be part of the same deck that can work as a theme.
I know a lot of that would be a logistical difficulty, but there must be a reason they are reducing the card designs as prizes and perhaps finding an alternative way to contribute to the future of the game would be a meaningful and coveted prize as well.
Draw being the best effect? Yeah, it is important, but I think "Search" is so much better. Why you should slowly draw into things, when you just search for it and have it right away?
I can see why the overall champion should get the best prize of designing a card, as he is definitly the best overall player. Is this maybe some kind of foreshadowing what is going to be announced next week? (for example fewer expansions like with Cthulhu, which means fewer cards to get as a champion card)
i highly doubt they will continue with just a slow drip of cards, as it doesn't address the issue of getting new players involved in the game.
Just to make everyone upset, I'm going to point out that Stahleck has designs for winners of both Melee and Joust. Typical, given my best shot would probably be Overall
.
That said, Gencon was the only nationals to my knowledge (maybe except China?) where the winner got a card design, so it's still 2 for North America and 2 for Europe in that regard.
Have both been confirmed for Stahleck this year, Wamma?
Also, I could have sworn that GenCon used to be a Continental rather than a National.
Or at least an amendment to the earlier news. FFG has confirmed a typo earlier. Card design prizes are available at Worlds for Joust, Melee, and Overall Champions.
thank goodness!
I agree, guest hosts are nice but I do not like them all the time at the expense of the original...new original...ok I got it, newest new original crew !!
I just finished going back and listening to the cast from the start and definitely miss Greg & Brett.
I also miss the car casts, as you can feel the excitement of the guys going to the event and on the way home the event is still so fresh in their minds !
Though possibly not as confused as I was listening to my first one (where Darryl claimed to be Will so I thought for a moment there were 2 Will's on the podcast...)
Just wait till you meet them in real life and Darryl will not only claim to be Will but everyone will call him Will for over 30 min just so the joke can go over.
Who starts with 183 anyway?
Maybe this podcast needs also some kind of rotation or "refresh" at is very hard for new players to get into. Especially, if they want to buy into every episode at once.
