Everyone seems to be annoyed with Worlds being 5 days. I want to see a reasonable alternative? If you have Joust, Melee, Draft and Joust and Melee for 2.0, I don't know how it is not actually 5 days? unless you are running 2 events per day, how can you fit it in less than 5 days? Next year it is surely back to 3 days? No 1.0 event and maybe even no Draft? Also June registration is pretty handy for International travellers, the earlier they can commit the better.

Oh and Justin is technically correct, I didn't win anything...except the free trip to Worlds :) 3rd in both Melee and Joust for Overall

HoD Highgarden is the greatest deck of all time because it runs a copy of Dockside Brothel. It is known.

On the Monday/Tuesday issue, I'd prefer Monday I think on the grounds that it gives you time to give fully realised and considered opinions when it comes to the articles, and discuss all the ramifications of them. I'm not saying you'd be incapable of doing that if you released on Tuesdays, far from it, but I think putting you guys in a position where you have to rush to talk about the article every Monday would be awkward and annoying for you after, say, week 2. Also I'd have to find something new to listen to on my Mondays, which I can't abide the thought of.

Alternatively, maybe consider moving to Friday? Seems like the perfect day to host a Thrones podcast, to me.

While you are right about the 5 days of Thrones (and that this should fix in the future), the number of events isnt the only consideration. Lets say you want to compress it down to 3 days - you obviously want Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon as the ideal (less time off work) - but you cannot compress all the events down to that, the space restrictions just will not allow it. So some events (Armada/X-Wing) (Melee/Joust), which pretty much have to be on consecutive days due to playerbase overlap, get pushed to Wed/Thu (where X-wing is now). Does it really make sense for FFGs number 1 sales product, X-wing, to be there?

Now I could argue that as long as Thrones gets the Weekend, we should be fine with it...

There was also a small period of time, after Five Kings Edition came out, where Valar had rotated out of standard: The resets avaliable then were Winter Storm (basically Aftermath) and Wildfire

You mentioned that FFG updated the schedule for Worlds (adding 2.0, removing draft finals on Sunday) but all I can find is the original schedule. Link please?

I am all for you continuing to keep the cast on Mondays. It makes my Mondays at work so much easier.

Unless I'm mis-remembering, this link  originally had the draft (and the elims but no prelims for AGOT), but now has the main events and no draft listed on Sunday. You may need to refresh if you've cached the document.

I haven't yet seen a schedule that incorporates any of the "Side events" (AGOT2.0 Joust Saturday, and AGOT2.0 Melee on Sunday), but both are referred to in the text of this article.

Okay gotcha. Before I thought you meant the new schedule included the "side events".

Link to our spoiler now included. So, what's everyone's opinion: Beyond the Wall, or Within it?

So it definitely looks Beyond the Wall to me!  That being said, woah.  This card looks like a lot of fun, can't wait to try out Night's Watch!  But, as far as graphic-design goes, I don't really dig this crammed card art for locations.  Characters get a big-ish window, so do attachments it looks like.  Even events have a full box frame.  Cramped!  Also, what is this black-tent or wizard's hat above the faction symbol?  Any significance?  For all my gripes, the art is spectacular for The Wall!

Why not move miniature games world champs to a separate weekend from LCG champs?

(Have not yet listened; you may very well have covered this)

I like the spoiler design. It encourages your opponent to attack, unlike the 1.0 neutral Wall. It's like a better designed Riverrun: much lower requirements for a less dramatic effect. Also a passive boost to boot for when you can't oppose them all. You're right that it may be too expensive though.

You're the second person to mention it (or the first, if you're the same to mention it on the facebook page) - and now that you have, I can't un-see it. Still, as I said there, at first it just seemed to me like the space between the NW crest and the forked "banner" on which the title is found.

RE: Varys

Is "Out-of-the-Game" equivalent to the Dead Pile? Can I have 3 copies of Varys and trigger him thrice?

Thanks

They answered your question in the podcast. "Out of the game" means he is not in your dead pile, so you can play another copy (assuming the rules remain the same as first edition).

Thanks, Scantrell. I'm sure they did. I listened to the podcast while making dinner with my 5-year old and 2-year old "helpers." So, I missed some things...

I like my weekends bookended by the 2C1C heavyweights and then my Northern brethren.

I recorded with a helper. It didnt help.

The only reason we could think of having the remove-from-game text (especially as it is a pretty odd thing to introduce in a core set) is to safeguard against future discard pile recursion but still allow someone to trigger him as often as thrice a game (so the dead pile does not block future use).

I know I'm in the minority, but I love the 5 day schedule for Worlds.  I already count on taking about a week for World's every year anyway (my employer has great benefits, so I end up with more time off than I probably deserve) so the ability to play AGoT -AND- Conquest is very welcome.

I still think there are a lot of other issues w/ the schedule/venue, but I'm selfishly pleased with it myself!

The Wall sounds really, really interesting.  It's exciting to see a big location like that without seeing any more Night's Watch cards.  Does this mean Night's Watch might be a "go first" type of faction?

Why would they want to go first? Seems like they would want to win initiative, but choose to go second. That way they have all of their available characters to defend and then make challenges with whoever's left.

On the subject of moving the cast to Tuesdays, I actually like that idea.

I'd be fine with moving the cast to Tuesday, and I'm glad they've added an extra day to Worlds this year so I can play Thrones all five days. Next year though, they could go back to four days if they separate LCGs from miniatures.

Why would they want to go first? Seems like they would want to win initiative, but choose to go second. That way they have all of their available characters to defend and then make challenges with whoever's left.

Because I misread the card.  I thought the +1 STR was dependent on The Wall standing, and going second could mean an easy UO challenge on your weakest icon or through stealth.  My bad.

Having listened, I have a few comments:

1. Istaril claims he has never played in a Thrones environment without Valar, but he has. It's called Draft. We don't have or really need a full reset in the draft environment and it doesn't seem to affect the smiles that spread across our faces as we play. What it does is promote the importance of the Military challenge, make power challenges matter more, and intrigue challenges matter less. I suppose that it is a matter of taste, but I like the pace and change that draft brings. Will I like that pace in constructed? Who knows, but I think it's also a bit naive to want the full cardpool 1.0 experience replicated in 2.0 out of the Core box. It really will feel more like Draft, and for that reason I think no Valar will be fine.

2. If my draft comparison is reliable, then removal will be at a premium in the Core. But, if we have enough removal to make a wildfire-only environment playable, it may get really crazy when we also add Valar. I hope testing was done to this end.

3. Regarding worlds, my point stands: put the mini games on a different week than the LCGs. Also, promote a Lord of the Rings side event. That game rules.

4. They seem to not want to incentivize organized play very much with no cash prizes, etc, but to me the always-wonky regional maps, the caps on attendance at worlds, etc. indicate to me that they actually underestimate the appetite for these events in their games and therefore aren't monetizing and capitalizing on them properly. I'm not saying make it a pro tour or anything, but surely they can, with a bit of investment in organization, make more $$$ than they do as a company off of us addicts. After all, you can't sell us more product; sell us more and better experiences.
