The White Book S6E3- 213

The White Book Podcast Kennon Darryl Pulseglazer Tcmmy

Finally, the 2ED Core Set reviews begin! Up this week? Stark.

It looks like CGDB is having some trouble with FTP access at the moment, so feel free to come grab the episode off the new site and feed. I'll be uploading here tomorrow once things seem to be working again as well.

The new feed should be showing up in iTunes, so be sure to check it out!

I'll be contacting last week's contest winners tomorrow evening so that I can get addresses!

Pre-comment disclaimer: haven't listened yet, that'll be today/tomorrow.

Only one faction a week? Are we just sadly assuming the first CP won't be out until mid-October? Very surprised this isn't 2 per week, especially given a lot of the cards have already been spoken about as they were spoiled, and a lot don't have much to say about them (vanilla lower end cards, reducers and the like).

Then again, having downloaded this it seems you somehow made it over 70 minutes on one faction, so we'll see I guess :P.

No assumption. Sept/Oct is what we're looking at per FFG

I haven't laughed this much during an episode in a while.

The trick with the review, as I note later in the episode, is that each faction in the core set has about the same number of cards as a chapter pack. We did enter into the episode with the plan of doing two houses, but realized that even trying to keep things at a fairly brisk pace, we ran out of time.

We're going to attempt to get two houses in next week, but we also want to make sure we actually have some discussion about the implications of each card, so we'll see how it goes.

Also yeah... it seems that FFG has revised the Core Set release date, as Mark noted above. Which means that the first CP is probably more like November now.

Awesome podcast. Newer player here, recently started listening to your podcast and figured i’d give my cents(not sure how many i have left) on your reviews. I’m trying to get involved more in the community as I’ve been more active on Agotcards.

I agreed or had the same take on most of the cards but had a different view on a few. Wasn’t sure to talk here or facebook but didn’t see this up on facebook.

Winter is coming: is cool b/c its once per challenge not phase, so Storm of Swords could have 4 claim.

Like Warm Rain: i actually think you don’t want more direwolves who are awesome. I feel like this card is made perfectly for the Pup. If your wolves are awesome and so something you’re probably using them for that. Like GW, you probably want to kill and then use Pup to kill on int. Course you could get more direwolves like Summer who have come into or leave play effects and such things like that.

Cat: i think she should have been an A, wasn’t Brienne. Block with her, Like Warm Rain can’t be cancelled. Syrios training means they can use Throwing Axe, Put to the Sword, or they can’t stop your Ice or Put to the Sword. I just think she’s amazing.

Bran: I think Bran is perfect. A solid B. the point is to have them there so your opp. has to decide which event is getting cancelled. Your probably going first in stark and so you Sacrifice stand all your dudes, maybe GW is eating twice. I feel like its like having Varys on the board in terms of when will i do it(of course Varys has a much bigger impact). And Bran can be brought back. Not saying he’s the best thing, but I think anything that makes your opp. change his game plan is good to me. Felt like he was dismissed if he has Insight, but Sam is only 1 str. And later there was a comment made about having the reducer guy make chump challenge and dude with Robert has to decide, same applies here and you’d get to draw a card.

My thoughts are probably way off(lol) as I don’t have near as much experience and understanding of the game, but I’m liking getting more involved to hear others takes and insight(pun intended). Like i just found Josh Staton’s stream and him and I have been talking and I’ll give some thoughts and he’ll break it down on how it fits in the game/board state and such and its really helpful for me.

Oh and I feel like Ice should cost 2. All of the other faction attachments cost 2 or less and they are repeatable effects, esp. Khal’s sword. And Seal of the Hand cost 3 and that’s a very powerful repeatable effect.

Awesome cast, can’t wait for the next one. thanks for what you do

Loved the podcast and review of the house. I am a Stark player through and through. I am hoping that the release the other wolves and key people in this first chapter pack cycle.

Instead of trying to squeeze in 2 factions in 1 episode, you should do some plots and/or neutral cards. This way you can speed up the review without trying to rush or split up some factions.

Force of will is on OCTGN, you'll want the Image packs first tho. If you know how to play magic then you should have no problem with force of will

More Darryl please. Very, very solid episode.

The reviews in general were quite good this episode and on point. There are a few places, however, where I think your A/B/C/D/F system fails. For example, how are the econ locations "Ds"? This pains my teacher heart, such cards are not "barely passing."

Perhaps it would be better in such situations to, instead of rating the card, to just talk about their place in the meta/deck building at the moment. How is, for example, running the in-faction reducers better or worse than running gold producers out of Stark? Aaron seemed to have some new ideas about the amount of limited cards to run, which Will disagreed with. This would have be an interesting discussion for both "older" players and new players, rather than dismissing the card(s) as "boring."

But they are boring. Roy likes boring cards!

So only 8 minutes in, and I vehemently disagree with a rating.  Bear and the Maiden Fair is ridiculously powerful.  Controlling your opponent's draw is crazy strong.  Giving them a weenie and econ and then putting power cards on the bottom of their deck is money. It costs zero and will straight up win you games.

Now I have to listen to the rest of the cast...welcome back, Darryl!

I'm honoured to be called out for incorrect opinions by someone who thinks the auto-include 0-for-1 resource locations are D cards!

Obligatory criticisms:

- Aaron's mic quality was unusually poor near the end of the episode for me, did that happen for anyone else?

- Card ratings I obviously disagree with a lot, but that's our natures.

- Very disappointed in you, Will, for wasting a "let's get cracking on" line on Stark and NOT Greyjoy.

- Broadchurch is ITV, not BBC ;).

Broadchurch is GREAT TV.
Miss 'Danger Zone' sign off and wish Gearhalt would come back, but that new Darrel guy kinda sounds like him.
But did enjoy the podcast as always
