Hello Darwin, Meet Shaper

AI ICEbreakers are unique in that they can get through anything. In theory, you just need to install one of these programs and there is no Corporate ICE that can stop you. Now there's a new AI entry named Darwin, and true to form it has its own particular AI-style weakness. Its base strength off the rack is zero, and it can't be pumped up with credits during a run as can most other ICEbreakers. Can this weakness be overcome more effectively than is the case with Crypsis and Wyrm? Well I'm glad you asked, and yes, I do believe it can be.

Welcome to This Just In!, an internal NBN broadcast for training and continuing education for cybersec personnel in using our superlative information network to trace, tag, outpace, and frag any Runners who dare to show their face on the corporate grid. I'm your host, Cybersec Sergeant Scrier.
In the previous episode, we gave you an inside look at what makes NBN ice unique, and showcased Data Raven as an excellent example of all those traits. If you missed it, you can catch it on-demand at This Just In! - Ice Ice Baby. This episode continues where the last one left off - pulling more ICE out of the toolbox so we can show you when and where and how to use it to smack the Runner scum right back out to his mama's basement.

Data Dealer - Value Priced

highjack
in Android: Netrunner
One of the interesting things about Netrunner is that from turn 1 you can basically do everything. Without any help you can draw cards, get credits, make runs. The only thing your deck necessarily enables is breaking ice (runner) or installing/advancing cards (corp). The result of this is that most of the cards in your deck are some derivative of that default action. You can click for a credit, or you can play easy mark for three. You can draw a card or play Anonymous Tip and draw three. When evaluating cards, whether for deck design or just choosing between two plays in a game, it's important to understand just how much value you're getting. This looks better in practice though, so let's look at some examples!

Rezzing and Running - Toolbox Running

We’ve been talking a lot about rezzing lately, haven’t we? You are probably asking yourself “Where the hell is the running the title has promised us?” Don’t worry, I haven’t been lying to you this entire time, I just wanted to start with an easier deck to explain, at least for me. This next deck we are going to talk about is a LOT harder to play, because it is what is called a “toolbox” deck. By this I mean that you have many cards for different situations. You have your aggro opening, a solid mid game, with a slightly weaker, but still strong, end game.

Learning to Love the Maker

Replicator is unlikely to get much love in the current environment because of a lack of outstanding equipment. However, it provides subtle advantages related to deck size which are worth considering, and lends itself towards a deck which should fare well against a variety of opponents in the current metagame. This article argues its merits and provides an example of a Replicator-based deck.

Evolving Perfection - Recentralization

Jinteki: Replicating Perfection (Trace Amount) isn't about changing the world to fit what we've created but rather being adaptive to an ever changing system. Jinteki's greatest strength is our adaptability. A runner rigidly sticking to one strategy just may find themselves quickly in hot water. For instance what if your central servers have little of value in them?
