Beyond the Wall Istaril livingend vaapad James J Darknoj Brendan D. Worlds CP Review Podcast
Click here for the podcast.Worlds is upon us. We're going to pretend that we recorded a very long episode to cater to your long drives/flights, but really, we just had a lot of content we wanted to get to! We start off with the week's news, as usual, then bring on James J. and Brendan D. from the Washington State meta to tell us about their inaugural 2.0 tournament. Switching gears (and continents), Florian M. (livingend) joins us to review the now-released "Taking the Black" chapter pack - which may be worth listening to if it's legal at worlds! We squeeze in a quick tip-of-the-week before Dave S. (vaapad) hops on to tell us about NYC's inaugural tournament, and his victory with a Targ/Lion minicurve deck. You're looking to beat Bara Fealty at worlds? This is a serious contender. Lastly, we close off with some upcoming tournaments, as well as all the information you need to tune-in to Worlds.

John... Now that was offside, wasn't it?
Glad I could help, James.
Almost 2 hrs of quality content, and somehow the story to come out of this is (as far as I can make out) "Alex hasn't seen some early 90s Mike Myers movie"?.
*Cry*
The Recrafting the Theory article is made by the same people as, but completely distinct from, the Quill & Tankard Regulars. Just as an opportunity for you to include some errata
.
I enjoyed the cast, It would be nice if you linked the alt art cards you mention in the intro.
Ah, but then you'd have less of an incentive to check out our facebook page! I kid of course - here are the relevant links

Another excellent episode, my friends. Really got me feeling the Worlds hype, even though y'all won't be there.
Re: the chapter pack review. I think it is a pretty excellent set to come *ahem* out of the gates with. Each house gets at least one interesting thing to push a sub-theme or expand upon an existing one. Off to a good start!
However, I do think y'all are underrating Renly. While he is certainly not greatest character of all time, he is a solid one who fills some necessary problems in Bara at the moment, particularly non-Bara Fealty. First, he is an int icon on a solid body. This is very important, since your don't want to be using Mel in challenges in a Targ heavy meta and the house is a bit int hole at the moment. Second, that reduction really does mean something in Bara. I've found that the econ of a Bara build (Fealty or Banner to something) can be a bit rough. You are relying on a lot of expensive characters to power your way to victory. Any sort of cost reduction, particularly with something that you can use in challenges can be pretty clutch. This is particularly true if you are playing one of the underrated banners in Bara (Lion & Sun). All in all, Renly is a flexible card. Useful but not fantastic. Easily a x1 in most Bara decks.
Finally, what is it going to take to get Jon and Alex in NYC for Red Saturday? Let it be known and I will try and make it happen. We need to find a way to get you two over the wall.
You are right, Targ completely slipped my mind. Its cards were so bad I forgot they were in the pack.
Targ really got burned in this pack.
I'll be here all week!
It might just be the beers, but I laughed.
I pretty much entirely agreed with Alex in the card reviews. One disagreement I will have though is on Muster the Realm. The comparison with Winds of Winter is valuable to an extent, but it overlooks one important aspect, which is that currently a non-Greyjoy deck can have at most 3 2-claim plots. Being able to (if you have enough armies) get a fourth one in there could be valuable, just for consistency of the aggro. Granted, I'm not sure there're enough armies for this deck to work yet, although I'm really not sure you need too many more (currently you can theoretically run 9 Armies, and I think 12-15 is probably the right number to reach); however, the cardpool is still small enough for now that you don't only have to see how Muster compares with Winds, but also if it complements it. I feel the same with regards to Renly and Littlefinger, incidentally - the former isn't as good, but does he need to be to reinforce the same concept and make the cut?
I think, Renly will be a staple in any Deck + Banner of the Stag and will be swapped relatively fast in Baratheon-decks when other Tricons/Intrigue-icons appear.
Great cast again. I can understand your sadness not attending world (I will maybe never able to go there, screw you Atlantic Ocean), but I am still totally pumped. I am already getting food and caffeine for some long nights and switching my sleeping rhythm to stay up longer to keep up with the streams.
Ya, that was my reaction to the reviews as well. I think Muster will see play. In a GJ deck you could have as much as 5 2-claim plots which can at least be fun even if it's not game breaking. With Banner you can get 9 armies which should let you activate the plot at least for 1 challenge in most cases unless you play against Bara.
Thanks for having us on guys! Really enjoyed hearing about vaapad's deck and the theory behind it... Loved the Easter eggs...
