Beyond the Wall Season Finale Istaril darknoj Stahleck Toast to 1.0 Podcast
It's finally here! The Stahleck-sode! We go over some news, especially the new Wolves of the North deluxe box, then jump into the Stahleck coverage - which includes our first attempts at dubbing recorded content (please let us know how that worked out for you). First, Melee champion Andreas R. recounts his tournament experience, followed by Joust champion Jesus G-V. Regrettably, a technical glitch caused the loss of a large part of that recording, so it's reconstructed from memory. Next up, team Captain of the European Team Champions (Germany), Jannis, followed by the champion of the 2nd edition side event Marto. We close off our Stahleck coverage with an interview with Wolfgang P., the mind (and heart) behind Stahleck, with some talk about the future of Stahleck. Finally, JCwamma joins us to toast 1st edition, and we close off our episode - and Season 2.

Erratum: The first version of the cast was missing a segment (the Toast). The fixed version was up by 00:20 eastern on Monday. If you already downloaded it, you'll probably have to refresh in order to clear your cache and get the correct episode (filename BeyondtheWall_S02E44-1.m4a).
I was really looking forward to listen to this episode, and now I am thinking about just delaying it until the new year and pretending there is no pause between season 2 and 3.
At this point, I want to thank you for your effort and a great podcast, and wish you some merry holidays. Hope to see you soon in 2016!
Haven't listed to all of the episode yet (only up to Andreas's segment), but a couple of points on the melee:
- Jack Machin was the wielder of the almighty Lannister House of Dreams Roulette Wheel
- The Noble Cause player in the top 16 was Ryan Wood, a Brit (one of 4, so apparently we're not bad in the Melee either!)
- I think Andreas was particularly modest about his tabletalk abilities, and also his own nerve. He basically played the final perfectly, holding cards where required and talking a perfect game. I can only offer him the utmost kudos.
I'm not quite done listening to the episode yet either, but first of all thank you for another great episode (well, so far
) and yet another fantastic season.
Pity the interview with Jesus got lost for the most part, I'd obviously be very interested in his insights regarding the final. But I do think you did an absolutely stellar job recounting the salient points, Alex.
Regarding the Team Event, I think we cannot praise the organisers enough. It is a tremendous addition to the Stahleck experience, and the people from game store in Athens who organise it really go above and beyond with it. Huge kudos to them! The prizes! The medals! The trophy! Here, I'll even plug the store's website:

I do think there's some minor wrinkles in the format that could be ironed out in the future, but overall it's simply fantastic.
Sad that 1.0 will no longer be casted or mentioned in the future, really sad, but what the game gave to loads of people is indescribable. Thanks to everyone involved in the game for making AGoT 1.0 a part of our lifes, and also you guys, for making this podcast.
Grats to the winners and Wolfgang for his amazing organization all these years.
Listen to you in the next season!!!!
Hugzzzzzz
This cast makes me want to cross the ocean to play against many Europeans.

~Bah. I beat him in Stahleck in the Melee in 2013. That means he cannot be very good.
In fact, Andreas is one of only 9 different players I have ever beaten in a Melee game, counting both casual and tournament games. True story.
Congrats on the cast and the season. Also, I really enjoyed your dubbed portion and love the spirit behind it. Great job guys.
Thank you for another great season of Beyond the Wall! Also, thanks for mentioning my 12 hour live stream, I hope to see all of you stop by at some point.

I played against a version of Mach's deck in joust at a regional. It had six locations (mander, cerseis chambers, westerlands, iron throne, lannisport tourney grounds and volantis inn) and it was lovely. His tourney reports are well worth reading and that one is here:

I do have the undubbed version. I'm not sure it's worth it for the interview with Jesus (because it's only 5 minutes of the hour of recording), but I can definitely make the interview with Marto available undubbed. I'll see about doing that tonight.
As a general suggestion for the future, if you do more of these dubbed articles, i'd consider transcribing the translation and having a second party read the responses. Hearing you talk to yourself is a bit odd.
I had some difficulty listening to the episode as I found the English dubbed over the other languages distracting. I know just enough Spanish and French that my mind would start comparing the original to the overdub and then I'd lose track of the conversation. I do appreciate the effort though, it's better than not doing the interview!
Thank you, gentlemen, for another excellent episode.
