This week, All Things Shagga turns its attention to the Tales of Champions cycle, bringing us one closer to returning the bi-weekly decklists that you all know and love. The ToC cycle brought two new keywords to the game and a plethora of new melee format centric cards and a smattering of cards built to expand previous themes that had turned out to be a little weak. It’s also the first chapter pack cycle of the LCG designed after the switch over to Damon as lead design. Let’s take a look at how the Shagga cards of this cycle compare to those that came before.

Or perhaps it is the card advantage that comes with the agenda that appeals to my competitive nature.

I like to win ugly. Ugly decks win several turns before the end of the game by slowly squeezing options away from my opponent. This is the basic theory of playing control decks. Control decks disrupt opposing characters, locations, and cards in hand. However, control doesn’t automatically mean a Jaime player or mean that control is the only game a Jaime will play. Jaime plays anything that wins.

White Cloak Arsenal - Hand Control

clu
in Game of Thrones
No matter what you’ve been told size matters. Your grip of cards represents potential. A two cost character is equally valuable as a five cost character when it is stuck in your hand. Those cards only matter if they hit play. Once in play, the five cost character should exert more influence over a game than the two cost dude. Hand control actually robs your opponent of making a choice of what to play. The goal is to reduce potential, preferably to zero.
