Crafting the Theory - Deck Archetypes

A while back, we had some heated conversations on the CardgameDB Forums on the merits and differences of the four primary playstyles in AGoT - Aggro, Rush, Control and Combo. Looking back, one worrisome aspect were the differing opinions on what actually constitutes a particular playstyle. As long as AGoT players are not on the same page with regard to the terminology, it can be quite hard to develop any real theoretical understanding of the game to a higher level.
Thankfully, such definitions are exactly the kind of stuff that we here at Crafting the Theory thrive on. So, without further ado, it’s time to get into the nuts and bolts of what makes each playstyle work.

It's good to have you here to discuss some thoughts on how the new FAQ will affect we dragons. It's not all good news, but it's not soooo bad either. Unless you're Dothraki, but I'll get to that. Let's start at the beginning, or at least at the most exciting part:

Song of the Sea Cycle Poll

With the Journey's End finally in sight, it is time to look to the past and all the storms, shipwrecks and deadly calms of the last half a year of Chapter Packs with the Song of the Sea Cycle. Does it feel like the whole Cycle was an arduous and excruciatingly Long Voyage, or did you really feel like your Prayers were answered?
To complement our monthly Chapter Pack reviews, the Small Council here on CardgameDB has taken up the habit of collecting polls on how the newest Chapter Pack Cycle has been received by you, our readers. In addition to questions about the Cycle in general, we are also asking people to nominate individual cards for specific Awards and Medals.
Interested in taking part? Follow on through to the relevant thread in the CardgameDB GoT Forums here!

I've been building decks for decades now, beginning in the '90s with Magic and moving through many different games over the years. Over the years I’ve picked up ideas and methodologies for deck building and refinement from both personal experience and reading the wisdom of others. Like any skill, deckbuilding is something you develop over time, learning to quickly separate what works and doesn't work. In this column I want to share what I know of deck construction for Game of Thrones, probably the most fun game to construct decks for that I’ve encountered.
