Star Wars No Disintegrations Ketricel
Welcome one and all to another week of No Disintegrations, now that everyone has had some time to get their hands on Edge of Darkness and do some playtesting I wanted to talk about one of my favorite decks thus far. Long have players waited for a light side deck that could compete toe to toe with Sith Control, outrace Imperial Navy, and still have tricks a plenty left over; rejoice that deck has finally arrived!! If you haven’t guessed by the title of the article, I will be going over a new Smuggler deck that I have been having great success running. Without further ado I present you with Every Day I'm Smugglin':Affiliation:

Sleuth Scout (Edge of Darkness)
Undercover Operative (Edge of Darkness)
Smuggler's Run (Edge of Darkness)
Over My Dead Body (Edge of Darkness)
As opposed to most previous light side decks, the builds we have post-EoD combine massive amounts of objective and enough combat tricks to put a Sith Control deck to shame. They pack a surprising toolbox of cards including Let the Wookiee Win, Swindled, Bamboozle, and Smuggler’s Run along with an arsenal of high powered units. Never before have we seen a light side deck building environment that packs this much punch while still being versatile and able to play around many of the current Dark Side strategies. The other thing that makes this deck shine is the fact that it comes with an astonishing 6 resource providing cards, which up until EoD was an unheard of amount for a Light Side deck. Add all this together and we truly have a deck that can stand toe to toe with the Dark Side big boys.
Pros:
- Tactics Icons
- Survivability
- Edge Battles
- Board control
- Objective Damage
Cons:
- Not enough Ewoks?
By no means is the deck perfect, there are con’s to the deck; the problem is they aren’t readily transparent until you understand how the deck works so let’s break down a few of the key units and see how the deck can be thwarted.
Han Solo/Chewbacca:
These guys are just wrecking balls, your opponent has to figure out a way to deal with any of them on a given turn since you are able to play any of them first turn with little issue. The best way I have found to deal with Chewbacca or Han is out of combat tricks such as Capture or Force Lightning. If your opponent has a Trust Me in play this gets infinitely trickier, but can still be accomplished through other more devious means (I’m looking at your Bossk). Also tactics work very well against either of them so getting them locked down early and often is usually your best bet, but far easier said than done because of cards such as Bamboozle in the decks arsenal.
Lando Calrissian:
I have had mixed success with Lando, at times he can be a game changer being able to strike twice with Han Solo or rescue a unit from being killed. Since he has Elite it is much harder to tactics him into oblivion, but at the same time his offensive might isn’t on the level of Han or Chewy. He can generally be annoying but on the scale of terrifying units I would place him the lowest on this decks list.
Millennium (Invincible) Falcon:
For an old rusted bucket of bolts the Falcon sure is a contender for “best unit EVERâ€. What makes it so good is not just that it has a solid amount of unit damage, or that it has a rather impressive amount of blast damage, not even its Edge 1 ability is the key, and call me a blasphemer but that sexy ability isn’t what puts it over the top in my book either. You know what puts it over the top? The fact that is has ALL of these things!! You take away any single ability or stat that this card has and it would still be a good card, having so much utility on a single unit is just what Light Side needed. How can a Dark Side player get around this behemoth? That is a very good question, and the correct answer is a tough one. Being able to strike in a single attack to kill the Falcon works, Force Lightning works, and Targeted Strike is very nice as well. Most opponents will see all these things coming and just bounce the Falcon at their first action window priority. The best way to curb the abuse of the Falcon is with discard and capture. Cards like Interrogation and Tatooine Crash go a long way to stopping the Falcon before it can even get started. If you can get the Falcon out of the game early you have gone a long way in shutting down the Smuggler powerhouse.
Sleuth Scout:
These sneaky little buggers are the single handed downfall of the “big†dark side decks. Yes I know Blockade Runner has the same ability, but these guys only cost two and you can run 4 of them in a deck! Big Red Bus/Devastating Sith and Imperial Capital Ship based decks stand very little chance in being able to hold their own against Sleuth Scouts. Not only are the bigger dark side decks a bit slow, but their key strategy was to get a big guy out on defense early until they could build their board back up. Now that big guy on defense doesn’t look as reassuring when you can just slip right past it with a Sleuth Scout. The dark side has had to shift its core fundamental strategies in order to deal with these little guys and play a bit differently in order to not lose on turn two against the perfect storm. As long as Sleuth Scouts (or even the fear of Sleuth Scouts) are in the game environment we will see a shift in every single dark side deck.
So now that all the doom and gloom has set in and people are getting that sinking feeling that “ZOMG SMUGGLERS ARE BROKENZZZ!!!†is there a way to build a deck that hard counters Smugglers? Fortunately I come bearing gifts. The following Dark Side deck has proven to be... good is too strong of a word, but at least competitive against a Character heavy Smuggler deck. It seems like a good launching point for a better deck that isn’t so focused, so run wild with it and make it better.

Hopefully this article has sparked everyone's interest to either try out Smuggler or at the very least figure out a way to beat them into a pulp. Next week I am planning to go in depth with a Dark Side deck that I have really enjoyed playing lately, but it is a bit too soon to spoil it with the closing rounds of the OCTGN Tournament upon us!! Thanks again for tuning in for No Disintegrations, if you have a particular deck you would like to see discussed in the coming weeks please leave a comment. As always without each and every one of the valued members here at CardgameDB.com I would be writing to no one so I thank you for your time and may the top deck always be with you!

You know its got a lot going for it when a card that can potentially kill multiple enemy units is the worst card in it...
I havent been running the Anoat objective myself, mostly because attacking undefended has not been a problem for me at all. I have been running Echo Caverns in their stead.
Also while the objective may give you two resources, you have to damage it twice to get it's effect. That's 40% of it's health to cancel one event. Still seems rough to me. But once again, as I play more games with it may view of it may change.
Yeah, trust me is a crazy good set, as are many of the smugglers sets, but it's up there. like every card in the set is incredible. I played the pure smuggler setup with lando, chewy, han, falcon, and echo caverns, and its crazy good. I have since been playing with my "the crew" deck which is chewy, han, luke, falcon, and the guardians, and I'm not sure which deck I like more. both are crazy good.
I also think Lando is generally a half-step below units like Han and the Falcon, but that's more a testament to how ridiculously powerful those latter two units are than a knock on Billy Dee. The really nice thing about Lando is the fact that he can still affect the game even if the DS player manages to load him up with focus tokens. Still rather have Han most of the time, but Lando is really, really good.
Lando and his set is good but it really takes the right combo or set up for you to use him. A resource is always good and the set it self is amazing. As far as lando goes I wish he had 3 hp. Him having elite is great but he can still die to force choke and such pretty quick.
I have been screwed over using "trust me" a few times. Its a double edge sword, your giving your opponenet a easier time at killing a a objective.
I'm guessing flooding the board with resources and cheap scavengers to pile up tactics on your opponent end then zerg rush with bombardment? What more?
While Trust Me this does not protect you from Bounty (as they are enhancements not events), it does provide great protection from the extremely powerful events like Superlaser Blast, There is No Escape, Force Lightning, Captured, The Desolation of Hoth, Force Shockwave, etc.
If you are worried about damaging your objective then run Escape from Ord Mantell x1 and play events to remove the damage.
