Beheading Ned - Wolves of the North

As you may have gathered from my past articles, I'm not really a pure Ned in terms of playstyle, and I don't really know anyone else who is, either. I'm more of a Ned crossed with a Shagga, and perhaps the thing that hits my preferences right on the head is thematic decks based around trait synergy. One such trait that is sorely in need of some more love to be competitive is Direwolf. These creatures are emblematic of House Stark--fierce, loyal, strong, and deadly.

In A Game of Thrones, like so many other card games, holds the age old adage "Draw = Win" that has been verified time and again. Now, to be more exact, what wins you games is Card Advantage - be it from draw, reveal & put into hand, searching, re-usable removal/saves, recursion or even hand destruction.

I rarely play combo at tournaments, but when I do, I play an obscene amount of tutor and draw effects. There are different types of combo out there that can give you an advantage during a game. Drawing more cards than your opponent does NOT mean you win the game. It is merely a tool to (hopefully) give you more options than your opponent. Having options gives you more potential to win. The game is over when one player has their decision tree choices reduced to zero. This can be in the form of how they initiate challenges, trigger an ability, or play a card. While sometimes I can’t control the first two aspects, I can supplement decks with enough draw to keep a fist full of cardboard.

In this installment of Psych 101 we'll be taking a closer look at the Melee format's 5 most dangerous men. Now, these cards might not be the best of the best, or even the best version of a card as glorified here. Regardless, the purpose of these articles is to highlight those cards, tactics or situations whose impact on the psychological landscape of the 4-player Melee is both undeniable and of epic proportions.

One of the big themes in House Targaryen is Recursion. As far as card effects go, the number of recursion cards in this House are significant, to say the least. Today, we're going to take a look at the recursion cards available, what they do, and how they work (and what you need to watch for or take advantage of).
