With Fire and Blood - Resource Management
Nov 07 2012 06:00 PM |
doulos2k
in Game of Thrones
Today, we're going to talk a bit about resource management. In this House, we can't even begin that without discussing the House keyword: Ambush. This is one of the most feared keywords in the game because your opponent has to just assume when they see the Targaryen house card, that at some point, you're going to bring a card from hand to defend or attack (or to trigger some other effect). As powerful as Ambush is, it requires you to think about resources much differently than you would if you were playing any other house.

With Fire and Blood - Recursion

One of the big themes in House Targaryen is Recursion. As far as card effects go, the number of recursion cards in this House are significant, to say the least. Today, we're going to take a look at the recursion cards available, what they do, and how they work (and what you need to watch for or take advantage of).

Last session doulos2k took a look at agendas for Targaryen in general, overviewing some great things to keep in mind when choosing your agenda as a Targaryen player. This week, we're going to focus in on perhaps the most talked about agenda this side of the House of Dreams. You know it; you fear it; you can not defeat it--the Knights of the Hollow Hill.

Welcome back to Fire and Blood, CardGameDB’s article featuring discussion about House Targaryen and all that it entails. Thanks for indulging doulos2k and I in our off week around the holidays. I hope that all of your stockings were stuffed full of Dragon Eggs and that you enjoyed your toast of Shade of the Evening to celebrate the new year. I’m not really up to date on my Chinese New Year, but for us Targaryens, every year is the year of the Dragon. In this week’s installment, we will talk about the best of cards, and the worst of cards. In my opinion, it’s actually the same card—The Maester’s Path.

With Fire and Blood - Agendas
Nov 21 2012 06:03 PM |

With House Targaryen, you'll find that you can build a deck with a large number of the available agendas. This week, we're going to look at the most common choices and generally discuss the strengths and weaknesses. Your mileage will vary and the beauty of this House is that there is so much flexibility in deck design - which means there's a lot of flexibility in agenda choice.

Who is the Real Driver—the Deck or the Player?
Aug 13 2012 04:00 PM |
Twn2dn
in Strategy
As some of you may know, I am a long-time A Game of Thrones cards (AGOT) player. I have enjoyed the evolution of this game from the first entrance of House Targaryen during the Ice & Fire era of the CCG. Over the past year or so, I have become simultaneously more excited about where the game is in terms of its diversity, and frustrated about where we are in terms of powerful effects (especially character removal). In short, every house has competitive options, but the decks at the competitive level increasingly feel like they drive the player, rather than the other way around.

White Cloak Arsenal - Recursion

in Game of Thrones
There is a reason you play with certain cards in your deck. Why wouldn't you want to play them again? Bringing cardboard heroes back from the grave like Beric Dondarion can lead to card advantage and mismatches to exploit. However, not all recursion cards are created equal. And some houses have better targets than others. In the world of bringing back that dead don’t forget to check cross house for some particular good beats.

White Cloak Arsenal - Hand Control
Nov 30 2012 07:15 PM |
clu
in Game of Thrones
No matter what you’ve been told size matters. Your grip of cards represents potential. A two cost character is equally valuable as a five cost character when it is stuck in your hand. Those cards only matter if they hit play. Once in play, the five cost character should exert more influence over a game than the two cost dude. Hand control actually robs your opponent of making a choice of what to play. The goal is to reduce potential, preferably to zero.

I had some free time, so I threw a little something together. Hopefully it helps the discussion in some way.

FFG releases some truly great games with high quality components. But when it comes to product logisitics, public relations, and organized play - they have some real head scratchers.
It wasn’t meant to be a series. It really wasn’t. But there was a first, then a sequel, then a third… Everyone says 4th time is the charm, right?
